@E_Variance The law was written back in the late 1970s, and Tehran does in fact have the resources to enforce it. They don’t, because average Iranians (bravely I might add) recoiled against it, to the point where the Ulema more or less decided to drop the subject.

You know, I think this speaks to a core delusion about US and Israeli conduct in this war. The Iranian governments efforts to enforce the wearing of hijabs has largely eaten shit since the protests over the murder of Mahsa Amini. As a mandatory law, its was on its been on its way out for well over a decade now (with noncompliance increasingly becoming normalized), but the 2023 protests made the Ulema nervous about even trying to enforce it. As such, this avenue of propaganda is nonsensical on its face. It’s a hackneyed bid to leverage a social practice that Iranians themselves had already largely crushed to justify a strike campaign that’ll mostly wind up negatively impacting regular Iranians (including folk who were protesting).
