@soychotic Windows was never this bad. Some hiccups, sure, but it is lacking behind macOS so much that it's scary.

@jonatanpallesen I don't think this will be the outcome. I can see it going down slightly and reverting around 2050. Making it symmetrical is absurd, because the postwar population growth was more intense than the current issue with replacement levels.

The total number of smart people in the world has just peaked. And now it's about to crash.

They're pushing money printing to the limit, to perform equity capture. The problem is that they will keep their share during crashes, because it is all architected. The tech sector is the leading market for those operations. Start any nonsense company, borrow money on top of the fake valuation, to invest in other people's fake tickers.

The positive thing about the acid dissolution of the West: there isn’t a single atom in my body that’s stressed about this type of thing anymore. The “nation” that accrued this debt has nothing to do w/ me. It’s the replacement population’s problem. Not my nation, not my debt
Thomas Massie@RepThomasMassie

The debt passed $39 trillion today. Paying a trillion dollars of interest annually on this debt causes hardship for tax-payers and robs us of resources that could otherwise be used for infrastructure or national defense. And ultimately, this debt will enslave our grandchildren.

I live right next to the US embassy in London. They built an actual moat around it. Who builds a moat around their embassy? Countries that do bad things and expect retaliation. Or countries who do diplomacy as if we’re in the Middle Ages.

@TeaconomistT @jonatanpallesen Except as a rage bait, I can't see why anyone would make that point. No, AI can't make barely functional people do anything new.

@jonatanpallesen In a world of generative AI and robotics, does this even matter? Today somebody with an 80 IQ can vibe code a web site, and use AI to deliver the marketing material and help with budgeting he needs to sell his farm produce.

@SNAFU_Sara @marcorandazza The reality is that people love to be hyperbolic about allergies, because it is just like claiming to be autistic: it's a trophy. "Omg, I'm so allergic to peanuts that if someone eats that right next to me, I might die" - This is just a cry for attention 99.999% of the time.

@SNAFU_Sara @marcorandazza Anyone "that allergic" for airborne particles has a very low quality of life and this is highly visible. Most people who think they're "that allergic" are actually the usual case of "if I eat one ounce of this, I will have a reaction".

@SamAntar They will definitely use this to force people to accommodate "the needy". Even people who didn't sign up for this. They will claim that the law now allows it and you must receive a family under rent assistance to live there.

The man who wanted to cancel rent, ban evictions, and provide free legal help to nonpaying tenants wants you to become a landlord and rent out your backyard or basement.

One of the hardest fought wins in the big City of Yes zoning change was the legalization of “Ancillary Dwelling Units” (ADUs)—a tiny house in the back yard, home over a garage, basement apartment etc. This zoning change could unlock as much as 25k desperately needed new homes in NYC’s low-density neighborhoods…but only if homeowners take advantage it. Now @NYCHousing is launching new tools to help: find out if your address qualifies, access low-interest financing, see pre-made designs etc. All here: nyc.gov/aduforyou This is just one more way housing creation in NYC is entering a whole new era. Thanks to all who fought hard for this.

People can't really build an OS around Linux and its ecosystem. It ends up being a toolkit made for that install. This is ok for servers and embedded systems, but bad for generic computing. Android uses Linux as an embedded BSP, handcrafted for that hardware platform, and the real OS is Android itself.

For anybody saying "Just use Linux", you need to realise that Linux is worse than Windows. Windows has all the bloat, and while you can have Linux without any of that you still don't have tools like Remedybg, RAD Debugger and Super Luminal. Once you have such tools, then Linux is a suitable app development environment. But _it is still trash_ because of the whole Linux model of you needing to compile everything. The fact that you cannot run an app built using a newer version of glibc is an insane decision. I shouldn't have to upgrade my whole machine in order to run something built on a newer version. I shouldn't be worried that an upgrade will break my machine. I shouldn't be forced to compile things from scratch to work on my machine. I shouldn't be forced to install N packages, I just want self contained binaries I can just download and run. I shouldn't be forced to develop with an old distro to have "max glibc compatibility". I shouldn't have to worry about X11 / Wayland / Window Managers. I shouldn't have to worry about asking the user to select a folder, display a dialog or show notifications. Linux is such a huge waste of potential, if they got their shit together they would completely obliterate Windows. I first got into Linux in 2000, and even back then there was this "it will take over Windows any time now!". It's been _26 years_! The same way I'd pay quite a lot for Windows without any bloat, I'd be willing to pay for a distro that gives me all this.
