I'm distracting myself with things I care about on social media, but fact of the matter is my partner died only just over two months ago. I never even got to refer to them as that here or anywhere else because we were on disability and scared. There were so many messed up things.

@DecideNow_ACP @AndrewLawton How is that preferable for statistics? We're hiding the actual cause of death for anyone using MAID which means that there is now at least one death due to partial deafness in one ear. Not knowing the numbers means we can't even know about potential issues. So much for safeguards

@AndrewLawton In Canada, a suicide is listed on the death certificate as the manner of death. The cause will be ie, asphyxiation or toxic drugs. But by choosing to die by MAiD, “MAiD” does not appear anywhere on a death certificate. For posterity-Geneology & stats-MAiD is a preferable death.

@TheBreakdownAB I rarely agree with the UCP govt and I'm 100% sure that they're doing this for the wrong reasons, but it is the right move. It makes AB the first govt to come close to meeting the UN recommendations about MAID for disabled people which is currently coercive. Their AISH cuts tho..

"For someone like me, who isn’t dying but often wants to, I need the law to protect me: from under-resourced systems, from clinicians afraid to talk about suicide and from myself on the days when I am convinced that dying is the answer. That, to me, is compassion."

MAID is discriminatory and coercive. Per the UN, Canada is in direct violation of the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, which it ratified in 2011.

Disabled people need and deserve the social & economic support to live independent lives They shouldn’t be forced to rely on abusive caregivers, live in legislated poverty or be institutionalized Disability is not a moral failing It’s a minority group you can join at any time

@MaskedHottiee @julia_doubleday @eilise I'm saying that it is very common among disabled people. Endometriosis is a disability that often does significant damage by your 30s. It's just that disabled people were invisible until covid let us all see our neighbours & coworkers become disabled in front of us.

@MaskedHottiee @julia_doubleday @eilise I had a physical job. Outside of healthcare, women in that age group usually don't. Any one of my health conditions might have been manageable but the combo wasn't - also not that uncommon. Disabled people are less likely to be employed & more likely to stop working earlier.

@AOgieglo The federal government has plenty of money for a gun buy back under the guise of public safety. Although it is a provincial matter, perhaps the feds can send some more money to the provinces for healthcare. This is happening across Canada.

You should be upset about this. Nearly every weekend for the past 2 months this $18M building, which has operating expenses of $18M annually, is sitting empty due to staffing challenges.

Ontario doctors are under orders to lie on your death certificate. Not shade the truth. Lie. Here it is. Official. In writing. From the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. "The illness, disease or disability leading to the request for MAID is to be recorded as the cause of death. The certificate cannot include any reference to MAID or the medications administered." “Ever since some lobbyists…used [the] murder of a disabled child to build support for their cause, arguing that Robert Latimer did the right thing in murdering his 12-year-old daughter Tracy in 1993, disabled people have pleaded with Canadian leaders to listen”: @mssinenomine
Macdonald-Laurier Institute@MLInstitute

“History is jagged. When an exemption to homicide was first carved out of the Criminal Code to allow for MAiD, and then when it was expanded further, disabled people’s rights dropped to a new low in Canada,” writes @mssinenomine for Inside Policy. Read full Inside Policy article here⬇️

Seeing the universal and well-earned outpouring of love for Stephen Lewis from media and political figures to the outright smearing of his son NDP leader Avi Lewis, who is carrying on the same fight for human rights and climate as his father, is a little jarring.

@HFiremoon @itachikarin @Wake__Up__01 @drterrysimpson Chemo patients are not going to want to eat steak and eggs when they have a mouth full of ulcers and are puking all hours of the day. When a cancer patient asks for caramel flavoured ice cream, that’s what you get them. At that stage calories matter and how they get them doesn’t

I do love it when non-medical people seem to think giving a patient, who is not eating, any food, because they need calories is bad. But, non physicians think that sick kids will just eat carrots, hummus, steak, or whatever. Sometimes we are just happy with any cancer patient getting any calories in any manner.
Boki X@Wake__Up__01

@drterrysimpson You think giving someone who needs to heal chicken nuggets as fuel bc it's what makes them "happy"? You are a dum fuk and an A hole Nutrition is one of the most important things. The body needs 150 minerals, trace elements, carbs, protein, good fats, and antioxidants to function
