@jonsurrell No idea, sorry. I don't see anything in the mailing list logs around that time either. Most of that stuff was just whatever the browsers at the time did already, so the real "why" of it may be lost to the late 90s, in the logs of the Netscape or IE teams.

These complaints are shared by many Flutter team members themselves. Hixie and several other brilliant engineers have left recently, likely due to one or more of these issues.

@ABarroso @RydMike I have seen a constant upward trend of companies picking up Flutter and contributing, but in the same regard, a lessening of individuals in the community contributing as they now work with, or in these companies. Which is good and bad. @Hixie I wonder if your stats show this.

@KristijanZic @MiSvTh As a general rule we make no attempt to predict how long things will take because software engineering is an art not a science. Our roadmap is what we plan to work on. It'll be done when it's done. That said, we're an open source project and if you contribute it'll go faster! :-)

With so much misinformation circulating about Dart & Flutter I feel a need to clarify. Facts: - No strategy changes. - No change in team size; some DevOps roles moving to new locations. - 2024 roadmap continues. Now I'll get back to the product!

Yeah, the model that was most effective was hiring people full time for 1+ years. But that requires the project to have a long, significant roadmap and the maintainers need to not have other jobs at the same time. It's a tradeoff and these opportunities are more rare than you'd think.

I spent a few years at Google and the OSSF literally trying to give money to OSS maintainers, and I can confidently say funding won't fix these problems. We had more money than we could possibly give away. This is not a funding problem, sorry. These takes are wrong and simplistic and silly.

@myobie I think it predates my involvement, IIRC it was already called "shadow content" in the XBL1 days (Mozilla's UI framework from 2000ish).

@Hixie do you remember why the name “shadow content” was chosen for the XBL spec (then the shadow DOM stuff later)? I can’t find a mailing list discussion about it, so I assume it was discussed in person or something like that. 🙇
