It also allows you to Ace any Survival Challenge by skipping to the last checkpoint without requiring a death.

The next checkpoint actually activates upon falling into the pit.
Which means that you can turn your controller off, then turn it back on.
This will force you to respawn at the next checkpoint and will not count as a death.
So you can in fact skip the tutorial.
