@MrsCMFrancis I've never heard anyone from California call it Cali. It's exclusively something annoying girls from elsewhere called it lol.

I often hear people say “no one from California actually says “Cali” and I simply think this is false, because I refer to my home state as “Cali” often. It’s like an enduring nick-name. Like she’s my good friend. Honestly I think it’s weird for people NOT from here to call it Cali. Like you don’t know us 💁🏼‍♀️

As newlyweds in California in 2006, we realized places meant for adults are rarely places friendly for kids. So either our kids' childhood had to suffer or *our* careers/social circle would suffer. I still think that's true. We chose a better childhood for the kids. Zero regrets
Stephanie H. Murray@stephmurrayyyy

I think it is pretty much inevitable that moving back to the U.S. will mean sacrificing freedom for my kids. IOW, the timeline along which my kids will gain the ability to navigate their daily lives without an adult chaperone will be moved back.

The "very online" vs. "mostly normal" distinction really matters here. Looking back on the 90s and 00s, attractive/popular classmates had no trouble finding spouses and having kids. But the nerds and the socially immature seemed to choose careers first and some ran out of time.

People who missed out on having babies because of "messages" you received. What were these messages? As someone who writes articles for a living I would love to go as viral as these seemingly very potent girlboss "messages!"

@Empty_America California ocean is very cold. But the climate has far fewer bugs and irritating insects, I think in part due to the colder ocean. It's more of a "sit in perfect comfort and look at it" kind of place than a swim in the ocean type of place.

As a normal mom who never paid attention to politics or culture wars until Covid, one of my biggest observations about the political/policy class is that they are wildly out of touch with middle class Americans. The attempt to demonize working women—a wildly elitist point of view—is just another example of this disconnect. Women work for the same reasons men work: to support their families. Most middle class American families don’t have a bevy of subsidized laborers doing their domestic chores—we just have each other. Marriage and family life isn’t about gender roles. It’s not about leisure or self-fulfillment. It’s about oneness. It’s about everyone working together to do what’s best for the family—not the individual. Cheers to all the families who are doing this with a depth of wisdom the modern think tank can’t comprehend!

@derekkite @mtaibbi The stats are pretty heavy in only one direction. Obviously there are exceptions to the trend though

I share your disgust. But it does go the other way. A friend suffered a terrible work accident. A long year before there was any certainty that he would survive, missing limbs. When he finally got into rehabilitation a counsellor told him there was a 95% chance that his wife would leave him. She didn't. Many years later she got cancer and he stuck with her. She survived and they are still together. Both remarkable people. Every man in my acquaintance that has had a head injury lost his family and much more.

Question for women: what do you hate most about men, and what's the worst example of typically male behavior you can remember? Non-criminal division. Asking unironically.

Thank you @CWABoulder for the chance to speak on the #tradwife panel. My POV: It’s not bad to be trad! Sex differences are real. Gen-Z women are not more trad than other gens, but they are at higher risk of missing out on marriage and kids. Let’s support women and families!!

Lower income/lower IQ boys are actually just a massive problem in class, highly disruptive, often aggressive towards other kids, can completely ruin the environment, and historically weren’t educated for a reason. It’s not the teacher’s fault, they just need to be removed
doomer@uncledoomer

i think the reason bright, energetic young men butt heads with schoolteachers, overwhelmingly women, is teachers simply have no theory of mind for male students, or arent willing to find the patience necessary to teach boys, whose learning styles are significantly higher variance

Yes you know I feel particularly intimidated by a man who thinks a pedestal is a "peddle stool"
Yossi Macher 🇺🇸 ✡️@rebtunabagel

@PaulMclo @Bobbythirdway @LaneSmithScott They also have a profoundly deep inferiority complex when it comes to men, no matter how much they are put on a peddle stool. Despite the ‘strong empowered woman don’t need no man bravado’ a strong man intimates the hell out of them.

@LaneSmithScott All these idiots criticizing (rightfully) "peddle stool" and then including an image of a "pedal stool." A "peddle stool" is more likely something you sit on when you sell stuff.

@DavidBulley In general I think we have a lot of people who are good at story telling, weaving worlds, imagining scenarios. And not enough numbers people who look at what we *actually have right now* in front of us and say "ok what can be done here?" Too many "what should be, ideally?" guys.

@LaneSmithScott I'd love to see a list of all these MAGA English lit professors. Because I know really a lot of them and not a single conservative in the bunch. I do believe you about the snake oil, though

The main problem for MAGA is economic theory. All the math people left and we've got too many Enligsh lit profs, dreamers, and snake oil salesmen. We have to actually come up with a theory of how to revitalize the country/reshore that isn't completely ignorant of basic econ/math
Lane Scott@LaneSmithScott

Profound economic illiteracy. It's the number one policy problem on the Right. We ran the numbers people off and now all we have are these idiot literature prof types and they honestly think removing all women from the workforce would enrich the remaining men. NO concept of econ

@Empty_America Kids rarely work above grade level at everything. I'd have them take classes on things they aren't good at, or play more sports and focus on that, or take lots of advanced classes at the JC before I'd send them to college early. Work experience, apprentice, etc. So many things

There is no really good answer to kids who work above grade level. Almost everyone who skips a grade regrets it as an adult, and if anything going to college early is even worse. I guess staying in grade, but graduating HS a year early, gap year, then college at 18 is best?
Marsha McLuhan@MCLuhan17

Going to college 2 years early was even worse. Being under 18 made dating awkward at a time when many were pairing up ("is it even legal") and when everyone turned 21 I was excluded from many social events at bars. Even years later I feel sad about missing a "normal experience"

@jameshtspstc Women don't know how to raise good sons. They are afraid of having sons because they don't know how to make good men out of them. It's hard without a good dad. But I agree they shouldn't say that stuff. It would be really sad if a boy heard her and was like ?

I was recently working at a wedding and was talking with the venue mangers and photographer (all women) while we waited for the bride. One of them was talking about a pregnant friend and said “well she works in domestic violence, so of course she doesn’t want a boy,” she said it as if it was an absolutely reasonable thing, full assumption that nobody could possibly have an objection to such a disgusting notion
_s.a.m.e.m.e.m.e_@st_louis_stan

This is such a weird and sad fact of life for like Millennial and younger people: Figuring out how to navigate peer women's extremist political views. I even thought this was bizarre when I was more centrist and they've only gotten worse. But like out of nowhere women will say crazy shit like how we need to destroy the US or assassinate (fill in the public figure) and they'll flip out if you disagree with them
