Yup. I’ve reported several direct threats (“kill yourself”, “I will kill you”, “die in a gas chamber”, etc.) and not one has been determined by @x to be a violation. On the other hand, my wife’s account was suspended (permanently) after she criticized Islam. But it’s cool, because there are no actual humans who you can talk to at X about it.

Artix Linux joins the ranks of Linux distributions refusing to comply with Age Verification laws. A developer for the systemd-free distro, based on Arch, stated simply: “We'll NEVER require any verification or identification from the user.” #msg55607" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">forum.artixlinux.org/index.php/topi…

Hey @X / @premium : How do I talk to a human about a paid/premium X account (my wife’s — @kalunduke) which was permanently suspended (with no option of appeal)… by what was clearly an AI bot making a mistake? I’ve attempted to DM with @Premium but that is appears to be a mildly incompetent AI chatbot. Is there no way for paying X customers to speak to a human to get technical or account support, @elonmusk & @nikitabier?

Will FreeDOS implement Age Verification to comply with new laws? Short answer: No. And FreeDOS may be forced to restrict access in areas with such laws. I reached out to Jim Hall, the founder of FreeDOS (the popular, GPL licensed MS-DOS compatible system), to ask what he thought. After discussing it, their team decided that, while laws like California AB-1043 are written in such a way that they apply to all Operating Systems, including FreeDOS… “The consensus is there's no way for DOS (any DOS) to meet [California law] AB-1043 because no DOS has the mechanisms to do that. I know some Linux distributions are discussing the option of putting a notice on their website  to the effect of "if you live in California, you should not use this because of AB-1043." That sucks, but that's also a path we've talked about too, mainly because we don't have a Foundation to cover us, we're just a group of volunteer developers.”

Moderators of the r/Linux subreddit are now censoring posts which talk about Age Verification. Not only are posts being removed, but I’ve heard from multiple Reddit users who have been banned from r/Linux for expressing opposition to Age Verification.

We've fined 4chan £450,000 for not having age checks in place to prevent children seeing porn on its site. The Online Safety Act is concerned with protecting people in the UK. It doesn't require platforms to restrict what people in other countries see. 🔗ofcom.org.uk/online-safety/…

The United Kingdom has demanded that 4chan pay a £520,000 fine for failure to comply with UK age verification laws. However, since 4chan is based in the USA, the UK has no jurisdiction to fine Americans in America. “As has been explained to your agency, ad nauseam, the United Kingdom lost the American Revolutionary War. We are not in the mood to discuss the matter further, and have not been in the mood for 250 years.” The letter to the UK’s Ofcom ended by suggesting that “maybe, you could just stop sending Americans stupid letters and acknowledge the sovereignty of the United States.” 4chan’s attorney, @prestonjbyrne also included a picture of a giant hamster dressed as Godzilla.

A high severity exploit in Ubuntu Linux has been revealed, which allows local attackers to gain root access to systems due to systemd. The Devuan Linux distribution (a version of Debian which does not use systemd, and is therefore not impacted by attacks using systemd) has responded by posting the following: “Found yet another high severity systemd bug in Ubuntu. Let us wish all Devuan users a wonderful day out with their family for a merry father's day, instead of shoveling unicorn sh*t.”

I’m compiling together a list of which Open Source Operating Systems (Linux, BSD, etc.) do (or do not) plan to comply with new Age Verification laws. I need to track these for the purpose of reporting on the story, and I figured others would find having a list handy as well. If you’d like to contribute, feel free. Will be adding to the list as more systems are confirmed as either implementing or opposing Age Verification. github.com/BryanLunduke/D…

Who is in charge of the releases of the GNOME Desktop Environment? According to the GNOME Release Calendar, two of the most prominent release managers (responsible for some of the most significant releases) are: Jeremy Bicha (jbicha) - A registered sex offender who, according to reports, was responsible for “thousands” of assaults of small children. Jordan Petridis (alatiera) - A man who attacks Jews, on the official GNOME website, as “apartheid, ethnosupremacist, babykillers” and “fascist maggots”. Both men have also defaced the source control repositories and wiki pages of “competing” open source projects, calling those they disagree with “Nazis”. At no point has GNOME made a statement against these actions, nor has GNOME acted to protect their contributors and users from the predators running their project. This is GNOME. release.gnome.org/calendar/

It looks like the Debian Linux project will soon have a new Leader focused on having fewer "(cis)male" contributors to Debian Linux. Nominations are closed for the new Debian Project Leader... and the election period is underway. Voters have exactly 1 (one) candidate to choose from when they vote. That's right. The Debian Project is giving their members only one option. That person, Sruthi Chandran, describes herself as a "librarian turned Free Software enthusiast and Debian Developer from India". She is focused on what she calls the "skewed gender ratios within the Free Software community", saying, "how many times did we have a non-(cis)male candidate for [Debian Project Leader]?" Sruthi says that diversity should "come up for discussion in each and every aspect of the project," adding the goal is to have "more women (both cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer people." Voting officially begins on April 4th. lists.debian.org/debian-devel-a…

Pokémon Go players thought they were just catching Pokémon, but they were actually building a massive real world map for Niantic. Over 30 billion images collected from phones, angles, movement, and locations. Now that data is training robots to navigate cities with extreme precision through Niantic Spatial. The same scans used to find Pokémon are now guiding delivery robots to your door door. Source: ndtv
