Last year, I went to @TRobinsonNewEra’s UTK March to support my best friend at her first-ever speaking engagement. I didn’t grow up in the UK but it became my adopted home over the years as I spent 7 years living in London and Cambridge. I met so many people at the March. If anyone has ever heard me speak, I speak English with an accent. I’m originally from Bolivia. No one would ever hear me speak and think I was British. Despite that, every single person I met in the crowd was so sweet. They asked me where I was from. They were so happy I was there standing alongside them. I thought they were supposed to be “racist” people who go to those events? I didn’t get anything like that. I met Tommy, too, and despite the fact everyone says he’s a xenophobic guy, he couldn’t have been more kind to me as a non-British woman. But, it gets even crazier. Now, my best friend, @AdaLluch, is BANNED from entering the country because her prescence would be “not conducive to the public good”. She’s literally an angel on earth who wouldn’t hurt a fly. She just has strong views about assimilation & migration. My other good friend, @JoeyMannarino, a US citizen who is literally protected by the Constitution’s First Amendment, was also banned from entering despite the fact that he LIVED and went to school in the UK for many years! They call Joey a “racist” and a “misogynist” when he literally opened his home to me, a woman, when I needed somewhere to go and never asked for anything in return. So misogynistic, right? These are good people who have been demonized directly by the Prime Minister of a country I called home for so many years. It’s unbelievable and it’s disgusting. I am not a citizen of the UK so I cannot vote there. But, if I could, I probably would’ve been someone who would’ve voted for the Labour Party. Not anymore. Now I see exactly everything my best friend has been talking about all these years. The tolerance that the left teaches only extends as far as you agreeing with them. Once you slightly disagree, they will literally use the power of the state to ban you from even entering the country. I’m definitely not a political expert, but isn’t that totalitarianism?
