@cclifescience @JakeYeston Yes, it is easy to change servers. I could see @AmerChemSociety or @aaas hosting servers for this purpose as a perk of membership.
English

@JakeYeston If you find a good science server let us know. I found nothing. If I understand correctly, it's not irreversible, you can migrate.
English

This is a serious plea. Is there a good thread or blog post somewhere explaining how Mastodon differs from Twitter and what to do to most constructively set up shop there? Basically all I see now are “Hi—my handle over there is name@server” and jokes about how it’s complicated.

@A_Aspuru_Guzik @joinmastodon LOL. Looks like that might just be for social scientists. But there are many other options as you said. Easy to set up, too. Join me now:

Supported by an unconditional grant from InterVenn Biosciences, the e-Book of Essentials of Glycobiology (4th Edition) published by @CSHL Press is being made available to readers free of charge. #glycotime cshl.edu/press-news/col…

@PomplunSeb @DirkTrauner Group has had mix of org/chem biol/analytical grad students and regular group meeting problem sets based on recent lit. Some days are problems related to chem bio and analysis—no arrow pushing.
English

#newPI asking question on group meetings:
Organic chemistry groups often do chemical problem sets (e.g., @DirkTrauner Denksport). Does anybody propose an analogue activity for bioorganic chemistry or chem-bio groups?
English

@AshleyDeyong So awesome to work in a place with creative people!

Loved working together with the Bennett Lab to automate carbohydrate building block synthesis. Thanks @glyco_pm for inspiring the collaboration! #glycotime

@vela_group I will greatly miss Pat. She was a major inspiration as I started my own independent career at ISU.
English

@laura_mckemmish Definitely—you will note the Creative Commons license at the bottom. Send me an email if you need a higher res version. (And sorry for the late reply. Too eventful!)
English

@NPohl_Group Love the application! Would it be possible for me to show the poster (credited of course!) to advanced 1st yr class as an excellent example of how computing can help chemists more broadly (the key message of our workshop classes)?
English

@NPohl_Group The SMILES and Inchi-keys are definitely useful! Python packages nowadays convert one to the other to 2D classical chemical structure to 3D optimised geometry (& yes produce IUPAC naming) and make modifications to the structures very easily - all enabled by naming systematically
English

@laura_mckemmish I used this #RSCEdu #RSCPoster in teaching a ~300-person required undergrad 2nd semester organic class that emphasized the changes that automation/AI are bringing to chemistry & medicine. No control gp; seems to have increased engagement in thinking about nomenclature though
English

@NPohl_Group My question is: how have you used the RHS or poster in teaching and how do you think it compares to the more standard LHS-only approach? #RSCPoster #RSCEdu
English

Thanks @Chem_Diva for bringing me into the #RSCPoster conference online today related to #RSCEdu. Such a great idea!

Teaching #IUPAC chemical nomenclature in #OrgChem actually becomes intellectually interesting when you start thinking about how to talk to a computer about 3D objects...

@SorinaChiorean Make it clear what you can bring to the new lab and also what you hope to learn. Tailor each application to an individual. (Amazing how many “Dear Sir” applications I have received.) And definitely do not take any “no” replies personally!
English

Okay, #ChemTwitter, I'm winding up to send out my 1st postdoc application.. I'd appreciate any & all tips!
*pretends to not be terrified* 😬
