“There are too few people living between the canals.” From an excellent column about Dublin in Saturday’s @IrishTimes by @davidmcw. Essential reading for @DavidMcredmond & @SimonHarrisTD

Why, if Matt Goodwin agrees that a descendent of migrants like me is English, does he keep on emphasising that the Southport suspect is the 'child of Rwandan immigrants' if he was born in Wales? I put the question to him on Moral Maze. Listen here:

Some people will talk themselves out of ever sharing their writing with anybody (and we know where this doesn't lead), let alone entering it for a prize; while others will just go for it. I've taught hundreds of students who have short stories hidden on their hard drives. My advice about sending out to competitions is to do so -- and then forget about it. The chances of being nominated or even winning are slight, but at least you've given it a shot. And you keep giving it a shot - submitting, writing, developing your skills and projects - because you are investing in your creativity and future. We have a choice between doing and not doing. One is fuelled by determination and ambition, the other by fear of failure and lack of confidence - instead of choosing to break free. @RSLiterature #WritingCommunity

Brett Kavanaugh was nominated to the Supreme Court one year ago today. Here’s a question I’m still thinking about from his confirmation hearing: Can you think of any laws that give the government the power to make decisions about the male body?

Yep. People can listen for themselves and draw their own conclusions. But folks need to hear the truth about aspects of this convo that are not being adequately addressed when the stakes are so high. First ballots go out in ~8-9 weeks. Watch here: instagram.com/reel/C9l41vgOA…

He’s so good at this.
