I get slightly mad at veterans who feel it is unfair that they call themselves veterans because they never served in a combat zone.
I always tell them:
"You raised your right hand. You were ready to die for your country. You're a veteran."
This is particularly true for Cold War vets who stared down the Soviets. There should be an official Cold War Service Medal.

What if, and hear me out, the AF just hand receipted all the Hogs to the Army, the Army Aviation branch expanded and trained their own officers and warrants to fly and brrrrrt, and 15T expanded to fixed wing maintenance as well.

@JamesSurowiecki There are VERY good arguments for the Electoral College; for example, in Canada where the Western Provinces are about to jump due to domination by Lawrentian provinces. Considering how much GDP in cities is based on shuffling money/paper, the 2nd/3rd order effects would be Bad!

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.

@VeryBrexitProbs I don't think anyone WANTS the UK to fail, but for us in the US, our our most objective window into the UK is naturally military and diplomatic power. Using these metrics, it is hard for us to wrap our heads around the seeming collapse of UK military power over the last decade.

The facts disagree.
On practically every measure of quality of life, health, safety, education, environment, the UK would rank as the best state in America.
The land of the "free " (where people get yanked off the street by masked men) is also the land of half a million medical bankruptcies a year and the world’s largest prison population.
This is the reality.

If the UK joined the US as the 51st state. We would be the poorest state in the entire union. Mississippi which is portrayed at swamp dwelling hillbillies in majority of international media is above us. I don’t think people grasp how far we’ve fallen in real terms when it comes to GDP per capita. We’ve seen no growth for almost an entire generations. We’ve seen our productivity decrease and our tax increases. The average person on the UK, on £50,000 is less well off than your average Mississippi swamp dweller.

@Silverback375 True. Most colleges admit people with mental and physical challenges and have programs to accommodate these deficiencies. There are college students who are admitted with significant criminal/arrest records. These factors generally disqualify one from military service.
