@Oceanbreeze473 CUSMA is based on the input of three national negotiating teams, just like NAFTA before it was. So no, the US does not get to dictate the updates to the agreement. As for goods/commodities not covered by CUSMA, the US will pay tariffs on them. So what?!

Mark Carney says the US does not get to dictate the terms of a trade agreement with Canada. Great Mark, watch tariffs go up to 200% now.

@Oct7NeverForget "Concessions" for the Russians mean handing over Ukraine to them. Clearly unacceptable! So Ukraine will keep fighting. What Trump asks is irrelevant.

Donald Trump called on Volodymyr Zelenskyy to make territorial concessions ⚡️ 🤬 Trump issued a statement urging Zelenskyy to agree to Moscow’s terms, warning that if he refuses, Vladimir Putin would “destroy” Ukraine. These remarks sparked outrage among Ukrainians and international partners, as they are effectively seen as a proposal to hand over Ukrainian territories to Putin. ⁉️ Should Ukraine make territorial concessions for the sake of peace?

@shuvmajumdar Canada has a free trade agreement with Mexico and the US which needs a few updates in June, and we aren't pivoting away from it. The EU doesn't have an FTA with the US, though it does have one with Canada.

So Canada is STILL the ONLY G7 country that hasn’t concluded a deal with the US. France, Germany, Italy (via EU), Japan, and the UK have all secured agreements or frameworks with the Trump administration to address or reduce the broad “reciprocal” tariffs (and related Section 232/301 measures) imposed starting in 2025. And here the CBC is misleading Canadians on Canada-US trade. The public deserves accuracy, not false narratives that distract. “In 2024, Canadian exports to the US amounted to $419 billion USD, our next biggest market was China at $21 billion USD. We can’t pivot away from that kind of market overnight; we need to stop playing games, get to the table and get a deal.” - @brianlilley torontosun.com/opinion/column…

@KarolineGosling Aren't you overstating your case, Karoline? Many Europeans may disagree (even violently) with Trump and his friends, but that doesn't mean that they hate America. Nor that they copy America in everything. And quite honestly, lots of us do not find America the best western society

The amount Europe hates America is beyond me as a German. We literally copied everything from and about America. America used to copy Europe, but that time is long gone. We now copy America, with everything. Because, let's be honest, America is the best western society. But the hate and arrogance of the Europeans towards America? Insane. The majority of Europe, male or female, literally just act like jealous women at this point.

@LauraBabcock Laura, Trump once called CUSMA (USMCA) the greatest deal ever because he thought he had set it up. It was actually the product of the hard work of the three countries' negotiating teams. I don't think he is about to destroy it, but who knows? You never know what to expect!

Trump was never going to let CUSMA happen. It’s too complex for his simple mind. He likes one-on-one battles. And as I said on The OShow no deal with him is worth the paper it’s written on anyway 🔗 youtu.be/uo6qEvu0kyc?si…

You hate Mark Carney because he’s a Liberal. Fine. But I keep hearing “he’s done nothing” from people who can’t name a single policy. So here are the receipts from his first 12 months: 1 - Killed the consumer carbon tax. Gone on day one. 2 - Scrapped the EV mandate. Replaced it with a $5,000 rebate and choice. 3 - Reversed the capital gains tax hike. 4 - Passed the One Canadian Economy Act (C-5) to tear down interprovincial trade barriers. 5 - Cut 40,000 federal jobs with a plan to actually shrink government. 6 - Slashed immigration targets to match housing and infrastructure capacity. 7 - Hit NATO’s 2% target with $82B in new defence spending. 8 - Launched Build Canada Homes + a Major Projects Office fast-tracking 20+ projects. 9 - 26 international trips, China canola tariffs reduced, $97B in foreign investment secured. Read it again: carbon tax gone. EV mandate gone. capital gains reversed. immigration down. defence up. trade barriers down. government trimmed. You don’t have to like him. You don’t have to vote for him. But saying “he’s done nothing” after that list isn’t analysis, it’s selective memory. #canpoli #cdnpoli #LIB2026 #markcarney

The level of bullshit coming from this Administration about Canada is frightening. I guess he forgot about Canada giving them cheap oil and our Electric Dams powering 7 States at a reduced price. We already know he doesn’t understand how tariffs work, trust me, he has no clue how Canada works.

@erik_thorvalds It doesn't make any sense to see the USA "pulling out" of USMCA. Whether volumes of FTA trade will shrink over the next years, as they have been shrinking for the last five, is another matter. Without USMCA all of North America becomes a lot poorer, and China rules world trade.

The American trade talks are going to fail. The Americans are going to unilaterally pull out of USMCA. (Yes, they can do that) Canada is in deep, deep trouble. They don’t realize what is coming. The saddest, most pathetic part is that it has all been 100% self inflicted.

@ezralevant There's no provocation. The Canadian team for negotiating updates to CUSMA is ready to go. We know that Trump will attack Canada before the negotiations because that's his tactic. But all the nonsense about US liquor is nothing to do with the Canadian govt. They didn't decide it.

Mark Carney is provoking the U.S. over trade. This makes no sense if the goal is to get the best deal possible. But it makes perfect sense when you realize the goal is to pick a fight with Trump, blame the recession on him, and ride a wave of anti-Americanism in an election.

The insult didn't start in a Canadian liquor store. It started at a podium in Washington. It is insulting to call one of the oldest allies, a country that sent soldiers to Normandy, Korea, Afghanistan, a state of the Union that should be absorbed. It is insulting to threaten economic warfare against a neighbour whose economic integration with America runs so deep. It is insulting to interfere in the internal politics of a sovereign ally - funding preferred candidates, amplifying separatist movements, treating a democratic election as an opportunity for destabilisation. It is insulting to stop traffic at the Friendship Bridge, a structure Canada literally built and named after the relationship being dismantled by the people now calling it insulting. It is insulting to charge entry fees to citizens of a country that shares the world's longest undefended border, a border that has been a symbol of peaceful coexistence for two centuries. It is insulting to revoke Canada's invitation to the Board of Peace for the crime of defending its own sovereignty at Davos. Canada didn't remove American spirits from shelves unprovoked. It removed them after the US spent eighteen months removing every assumption of mutual respect that made the relationship worth maintaining. #Canada #Trump
