Competent reading instruction with teacher train and ongoing coaching on high-quality curriculum is the *opposite* of a "miracle." It should be the standard everywhere.
Arjun Panickssery@panickssery

Mississippi has the best demographic-adjusted NAEP (4th & 8th grade) scores now The "Mississippi Miracle" started in 2012 when the Republican governor/legislature introduced phonics-based instruction and began to hold back ~10% of 3rd graders per year who fail a reading test

@rpondiscio When you get to HS literature, if you aren't referencing the bible at some point, you are doing your students a disservice. How do you teach Lord of the Flies without it? Biblical allusions all over the place.

Big moves in CO on students-first funding 💪🏼
Ready Colorado Education@ReadyColo

Senate Minority Leader @Paul_Lundeen's closing remarks on HB24-1448, the school finance reform bill, elevated the importance and moral imperative of funding student needs over systems. The bill is currently awaiting the Governor's signature. Read Sen. Lundeen’s remarks below: "[House Bill 1448] is responsible to the state budget, it is sensitive to district needs, it is elegant in establishing a new mathematical formula that at the end of the day, most importantly, honors students. It’s a transformation from a formula that was about systems into a formula that is about students. It is our responsibility, it is our moral imperative that we meet every student who shows up on the doorstep of our public schools asking for, needing a free public education that we acknowledge the circumstances from which that student arrives, and the opportunity that the student may move forward in their life to. Nothing is as important in a child’s life, beyond love, family and friends, than the education they get. And it is critically important that this formula will offer the promise of actually making the way we fund public education about those precious souls that are the future of our state and the future of our country for the first time." @rpondiscio I'm amazed how many high schoolers today have never had a W2 job, when virtually all of their parents did at this age. Why aren't we encouraging kids to work?

Ready Colorado is honored to be a part of an incredible coalition that worked tirelessly to pass House Bill 24-1448 to improve the way we fund public education. For the first time, Colorado’s school finance formula will prioritize STUDENTS and will recognize their unique needs.
