Today is Tax Day, and it’s important that the American people know who has their back. Last year, Republicans delivered the largest tax cut in American history. Kentuckians will see a significant increase in take-home pay and keep more of their hard-earned dollars thanks to the Working Families @TaxCuts. Every Senate Democrat opposed this legislation and voted to raise taxes on all Americans. Senate Republicans are focused on making life easier for the average American while Democrats put working people last.

It was an honor to receive the Bryce Harlow Award and be recognized by my good friend @Sen_JoeManchin and the @BryceHarlow. The Bryce Harlow Award is about trust, respect, integrity, and results—values embodied by Bryce Harlow himself, and the incredible public servants past and present who have received this award, including Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina, and more. We must work to stand against the destructive trend of hyperpartisanship; the problems we face today will not be solved by the partisan divisiveness that created them.

I sent a letter last month opposing the closures of two Taxpayer Assistance Centers—one in Bangor, Maine, and one in Augusta, Maine. These closures mean that someone from my hometown of Caribou, who needs in-person service faces a 10-hour-plus round trip to the nearest Taxpayer Assistance Center in Portland. That's the last remaining TAC in the entire State of Maine. That's just not reasonable, particularly when you consider that Maine has the oldest population by median age in the country. We have areas of the state where internet service is simply not available, and we have older adults who, even if it is available, may not have access to computers or to the skills that they need to use that method of getting help.

I asked Secretary Lutnick to reaffirm his commitment to ensure that the Department of Commerce will work with Maine's lobster industry. Lobstermen and women are the best stewards of our waters and fundamental to our coastal communities. It takes all hands on deck to ensure that future regulatory actions will fully incorporate the most current population data for Right Whales, real-time monitoring technologies, and region-specific risk assessments, rather than relying on outdated assumptions that may no longer reflect the actual Right Whale distribution, or fishing patterns.

This weekend, @SenPeterWelch and I attended the @AESymposium in Anchorage before hosting the Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region in Fairbanks, where we were joined by seven parliamentary delegations, 22 parliamentarians, two regional parliamentary observers, and the permanent participants. As the world increasingly focuses on the Arctic, gatherings like these are more important than ever, bringing together academics, scientists, diplomats, military, and industry leaders. The shared challenges we face can only be addressed through cooperation. It was encouraging to work together on opportunities to strengthen energy security, scientific research, mutual defense, free trade, and more. My thanks to everyone who traveled from across the Arctic to connect and collaborate—because in these turbulent times, our relationships matter more than ever.

Over 160 communities in Alaska rely on one or two fuel deliveries annually, typically by barge, and price volatility is driving up costs for carriers and customers alike. I appreciated the opportunity to raise this with Secretary Burgum directly this morning, and will be working closely with the administration to help these Alaskans get their fuel on time and at the lowest possible prices.

Kevin Warsh is a great nominee to be Chairman of the Federal Reserve, and I look forward to supporting him out of committee once the DOJ drops their bogus investigation into Chairman Powell that threatens the independence of the Fed.

Thank you @SecMullinDHS for approving more than $238M in funding for North Carolina to support Helene recovery efforts. I am grateful for the leadership of DHS and FEMA to deliver these much-needed resources. I urge my Democrat colleagues to come to the table and help replenish the Disaster Relief Fund so these announcements can continue for disaster-torn communities across the country.
