🏴🇬🇧 A blind man built 180 miles of road across the Pennines.
He navigated by touch and memory.
His name was Blind Jack. 🦯
Born in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, 1717. At six he caught smallpox and went blind.
That never stopped him.
He learned to ride. To swim. To hunt. At fifteen he became a fiddler. He fought at the Battle of Culloden. He ran a stagecoach company.
He eloped with the innkeeper's daughter. The day before her wedding to another man. 💨
He bet a colonel he could walk from London to Harrogate faster than a coach. 🏴
He won. Five and a half days on foot. 207 miles.
In 1765, Parliament authorised new turnpike roads across the north. There were very few people with experience. Jack was 48 years old. He seized his moment.
He walked every route first. Alone. Then he built.
Proper foundations. Drainage. Techniques nobody had used before. 🛤️
Then he hit the bog. Other engineers said it was impossible.
Jack cut heather from the moor. Bound it into rafts. Laid the road on top.
The bog held. ✅
Across the north of England. 180 miles of road.
You have driven on his roads.
At 77 he walked to York to dictate his life story to a publisher. 📖
He died in 1810. He was 92. He left behind four daughters, twenty grandchildren, and ninety great and great-great grandchildren.
Did they teach you his name? 🏴
Jack could never see the roads he built.
He made them anyway.

The UK is running out of drinking water.
Yes, really.
The UK is one of the wettest countries in Europe. Yet by 2055, England could face a 5 billion litre daily water shortfall without urgent action.
So how did we get here?
We have spent decades over-abstracting our rivers, draining wetlands, and failing to build new reservoirs. At the same time, temperatures are rising, droughts are becoming more frequent, and demand for water continues to grow.
When it does rain, our landscapes no longer hold water as they should. Hardened cities, deforested hills, and degraded soils send water rushing into the sea - often causing floods along the way.
But there is hope.
With the right leadership and investment, this crisis is solvable. We can fix leaking pipes, restore wetlands, reduce abstraction, reuse water, and work with nature to store it in the landscape.
What we need now is urgent action.
It is time to declare a national freshwater emergency and deliver a funded plan to secure our water future.
Because if we don’t act now, Britain will run dry.

Since @BishopDewar’s open letter to His Majesty King Charles III, there have been many enquiries about the Confessing Anglican Church and who we are.

Any other Prime Minister would regard this as an overt act of war.

If the Diego Garcia strike report is accurate, then one of the central assumptions about Iran’s missile program has just collapsed. For years, the accepted ceiling was around 2,000 kilometers. A ballistic missile reaching Diego Garcia suggests something in the neighborhood of 4,000 kilometers, which pushes it out of the medium-range category and into the intermediate-range class (IRBM). That is a strategic leap. The real story is not whether the missile was intercepted. It is that Iran may have demonstrated reach far beyond what much of the world believed it possessed. A 4,000-kilometer capability changes the map. Major European capitals begin to enter the conversation. Paris comes into range. London moves much closer to the edge of vulnerability depending on launch point and payload. This would mean the missile threat is no longer confined to the Gulf, Israel, or parts of South Asia. It would mean the radius of deterrence, defense, and fear has expanded dramatically. If confirmed, Diego Garcia was not just a target. It was a message.
