As gut-wrenching as it is to watch these videos of innocent children and young and old, being viciously bitten by stray dogs- in most cases, packs- we hope it also clears up the misconception that stray dog attacks are provoked. Most of the time, they are not, especially when it's a pack. This poor girl, like so many other victims, was minding her own business.

On 22 April 2025, the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam was turned into a site of unimaginable horror. On that afternoon, as between 1,000 and 1,500 visitors filled the valley to picnic, ride ponies, and take photographs against the lush green landscape, terror arrived without warning. Three terrorists stepped out of the pines and turned one of Kashmir's busiest holiday trails into a killing field. By the time it was over, 26 civilians were dead, 25 of them tourists and one a local pony operator in Kashmir's deadliest assault on visitors since 2000. The militants targeted Hindu tourists. They were ordinary people, families on holiday, couples beginning their lives together, travellers who had come to see the beauty of Kashmir.  Survivors told investigators that the gunmen separated men from women, demanded some recite the kalima, and shot those they identified as non-Muslims at point-blank range. The cruelty was deliberate. The cowardice, absolute. To remember the victims of Pahalgam is not simply to mourn. It is to insist that their lives had value. May the 26 souls who were stolen from us on that April afternoon rest in peace. May their families find, over time, some measure of solace. And may we, as a people, honour their memory not just with words, but with the resolve to build a world where no meadow, no valley, and no people are made to suffer this way again. Lest we forget.

On this day, we solemnly remember the innocent lives we lost in the horrific Pahalgam terror attack last year. The grief and pain of losing our people still remain in the heart of every Indian. Terrorism is the greatest enemy of humanity, against which we must stand united to fight and defeat. India will continue its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and those who harbour it.

Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss. As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror.
