The number of people who clearly use AI to craft basic posts on this site, and replies to posts, is pretty shocking. Once you learn how to spot AI writing, you see it absolutely everywhere on here. It’s unmistakable. The tech has existed for 10 seconds and already huge swaths of people have completely given up on even the simplest forms of creative writing.

It is, of course, correct that the Iran war won't help electorally. At best it'll be a null for the Trump Administration (if everything goes well). But this immediately filtering of everything through "what will be the political consequences" is why we're in the mess we are in.
Nate Silver@NateSilver538

From a purely electoral standpoint (not that I don't have opinions about it from a non-electoral standpoint) Iran has to be one of the dumber moves in recent memory. Maybe the base case is that things get back to normal, but the risks for Trump are weighted to the downside.

“Majority Leader” didn’t exist when Adams was Vice President. He was President of the Senate, but that’s not Majority Leader. Grassley serves there. Just like if you have a Democratic Veep, he might be President of the Senate but wouldn’t be the leader of a Republican majority.
The Conservative Alternative@OldeWorldOrder

JD Vance should replace John Thune as Senate Majority Leader. It's his Constitutional right, as Vice President. John Adams did it for 4 whole years. We could ram through the entire MAGA agenda before midterms. Let's make it happen.

In Northwest Georgia, someone is texting Republican voters claiming the Trump-endorsed front-runner, Clay Fuller, is married to a man and is, himself, actually gay. It'd be nice to be able to track down the sources of this stuff and send people to jail. Clay Fuller is the former District Attorney and is also a Lt Col and a Deputy Staff Judge Advocate in the Air National Guard. He has a wife and two kids. Seventeen candidates are running in that special election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene.

I keep seeing people say things like this about Mojtaba Khamenei, the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic: “You killed his wife, his kid, his mom — you think he’s going to negotiate with you now?” He was never going to negotiate, or at least not in any meaningful way. I think many people in the West have a hard time wrapping their minds around what it means to be a true hardliner. They assume that an autocrat like Khamenei or his father is guided by personal self-interest and will eventually yield if the pressure becomes great enough — that at some point survival, comfort, or family will override ideology. But for people like this, ideology is the point. Compromise is seen as weakness, yielding will lead the way to collapse. In their worldview, enduring pressure — even catastrophic pressure — is preferable to surrendering what they see as a mission. None of this is to praise him, of course. This mentality has taken the nation of Iran into the depths of hell.

Watching Toy Story 3 with my kids. In the landfill, the toys are apparently the only conscious beings amid all the random plastic objects. And yet in the fourth installment we’re introduced to a self-aware spork that Bonnie, a young child, has named Forky. This suggests that consciousness in the Toy Story universe is imbued into objects only once they are named and loved by a human being. This would explain why the toys in Sid’s room in the first film apparently have a more rudimentary and savage form of consciousness, reflecting the conscious state of the child who owns them. I need to develop this theory more. I’ll let you know what I come up with.

How the Washington Post remembers Khamenei: "With his bushy white beard and easy smile, Ayatollah Khamenei cut a more avuncular figure in public than his perpetually scowling but much more revered mentor, and he was known to be fond of Persian poetry and classic Western novels, especially Victor Hugo’s 'Les Misérables.' ... Some Iranians who knew Ayatollah Khamenei before he became supreme leader described him as a 'closet moderate'' ..." washingtonpost.com/obituaries/202…

The sense I get from watching my first ever hockey game is that the championship games are incredibly exciting in a way that Super Bowls often aren’t, but some random regular season hockey game would be excruciatingly boring in a way that random regular season football games rarely are. True or false?
