If 51% of a state votes for a system that effectively erases the representation of the other 49%, that isn't democracy. Representation is supposed to be a reflection of the entire electorate, not a winner-take-all prize where the slim majority gets to decide who even counts as a voice.
When you use a majority vote to validate maps that inherently favor one party, you aren't 'letting the people decide.' You're using the mechanics of voting to dismantle the purpose of representation.
