NIMBY org.

@jletanaka @StrongTowns Go win housing battles in the trenches. I'll probably agree with 90% of those. Hang out on Twitter and shout into the echo chamber. That's cool, too. Just don't pretend to be a serious and thoughtful movement about housing policy. It's obvious YIMBY is not.

@vanillaopinions And rent control. Just like NYC these statistics are never applicable to new arrivals.

@notkavi UES remains the best piece of Urbanism in the world. But we can still do better.

When you line up Tokyo, NYC, and London by density what sticks out more than density is just how huge Tokyo is — this shows up as a higher density at r=4km because less of the city is at the edges. But there's no real equivalent to the UES

@StefanFSchubert Europe is and isn't a thing. Ultimately it is about 200 years behind the USA in its federalism and still need to get rid of it's stupid little ethno-state problem.

In most cases where people say "European X are such-and-such", "European" should be replaced by a more specific region, like "German", "southern European", "Scandinavian", etc. Europe is much more heterogeneous than much of Twitter discourse seems to realise.

Zou dit het slechtste stukje fietspad van de @ProvUtrecht zijn? Ik dacht dat dit punt (Doorn) zou worden verbeterd maar dat duurt blijkbaar nog even...

@YIMBYLAND You will if you look to see how much cities tax these structures.

I can't believe America perfected suburban housing and then just… stopped building like this.

@sam_d_1995 all told, fare checks are still pretty rare across Europe. they’re almsot non-existent, in my experience, in Italy and Spain.

this is exactly how transit works in Germany and Denmark. unarmed fare enforcement to keep the system safe and make sure everyone pays their fair share

@crowleycf @JMVenz @YIMBYLAND One washed out highway away from a Mad Max situation due to broken logistics chains. And this is obviously not a suburb. Stop being tedious. We don’t have a housing shortage, we have a surplus of “investors” and capitalists hoarding existing capacity.

@jrouldz @YIMBYLAND The land and location is highly coveted. If they were allowed, most of these buildings would be demolished and hundreds of units built in their place.

@YIMBYLAND All these buildings are ~100+ years old, and still as highly coveted as any properties in NYC

@JMVenz @YIMBYLAND These are suburban densities, largely single family mansions. Given land prices they can easily be upzonned to real urban densities.

@YIMBYLAND I wouldn’t think of that as a suburb now. But it probably was when it first developed .
