@dickieholland @martinpmurray @reformparty_uk We voted against it being an amendment to the MTFS and the funding coming from a contingency fund, because it’s being bought forward in the Capital Program and the funding is coming from a road safety fund. We couldn’t vote for it because then the funding stream would change.

@martinpmurray @reformparty_uk Is this the amendment proposed by the Conservatives that Reform (with a majority) voted AGAINST, meaning that it can't be brought up for discussion for 6 months? How is the Cabinet going to deliver something that was proposed as an amendment, and full council voted against it?

@JoshNewburyMP How on earth does putting them underground cost 10 times more? Digging a trench and installing ducts, costs more than digging foundations, laying concrete foundations with re-bar, then building a steel structure to hang the wires from? Please show me the costings for both!

So we’re lowering bills by *checks notes* under grounding cables which costs 10 times more than pylons 🤔 Are Reform MPs going to fork out for that or will those extra costs go on bills? Also, you’re no ally to farmers if you’re telling them what they can do with their land 🚜🤷🏼‍♂️

@martinpmurray Green Party asked for £100,000 to be ring fenced for the museum, but hardly mentioned the theatre. I was appauled at some of the things I heard at the meeting, with typical party attacks you see at Westminster, mainly from Labour aimed at the Conservative alternative.

Josh Newbury MP for Cannock who claimed in public he was surprised by the initial decision by Cannock Council last year, was actually Deputy Leader of CCDC at the time of the proposal in early 2024, he would also have been present last year as Deputy Leader of CCDC when the original approved plans to build a Northern Gateway & Cultural Hub from the Levelling Up Fund got ripped up, torn apart then sent to Westminster for approval, which of course they will get. This plan proposes to sell this land, OUR LAND to 'Developers' who they claim, will build the retail & hospitality to give us our Cultural Hub. Do you honestly believe any developer is going to build places for retail & hospitality or will it be housing🤫 This is the Death of Cannock Town Centre and a slap in the face to Culture & History in our area. This once thriving Island Town Centre will become an Island Housing Estate, with a precinct shopping area. What a shame, what a Waste and What a Disgrace to the people of Cannock Chase. @martinpmurray All of Cannock’s Labour Councillors voted FOR the new budget which included the closure of the Prince of Wales Theatre and Cannock Chase Museum. Conservatives made a heart felt speach about them, but did not attempt to provide an alternative budget to allow them to stay.
