i get why i find a lush valley or glimmering lake beautiful. lots of selective survival pressure. but why nebulae? what’s the evolutionary benefit in that ?

We order a new Ford Maverick. Dealer calls and said they got financing approved but it’s a high rate so they recommend we put more down and in the future get approved for the Ford credit line to make things easier. I ask the rate. 12.99% I say let’s pause on the deal and let me make a few calls. 5 mins later the phone rings. They magically got it down to 8.49%. Don’t let these guys try to screw you over.

@qualiascript i think it generally relies on humans having some non material component which can exist separate from your life & is fungible or homoiousian with that of other individuals. a soul before birth, if you're religious, or something like andy weir's egg if you're a huge sci fi dork

the veil of ignorance argument is literally incoherent. in order for it to be wrong, it would need to be a proposition that is able to be false
the idea of having your genetics, environment and individual traits completely swapped while still "being you" is nonsensical

@adam_kranz you mean superstimuli? it's just the idea tha if stimulus produces a response in the subject, then a magnified version of the stimulus probably produces a magnified response
i think the classic example in humans are those old fertility idols with disproportionately huge breasts

intelligence is knowing all the evopsych arguments of why this might be the case. wisdom is discarding all of those in favor of "supernormal stimulus got hands."

Being a gay man versus a gay guy are two entirely different concepts… gay man is an identity, gay guy is a mental mindset. Women can be gay guys if they live life with an appropriate joie de vivre
