@realnikohouse Those are crony capitalists. A real solution would be a tarrif that would account for wage and environmental disparities. The government puts a lot of mandated on American companies for such things, and should place an equivalent tarrif to account for the burdens they add.

@GrailArchive Long-time W211 owner, did some repairs on W212s. Tough to say, wish I had more experience with the older models. But I will say that DAS/Xentry -based diagnostics in W211 and newer make life a lot easier.

Conservatives truly have zero policy solutions to any of our fucking problems lol. Even your dumbass deserves to have more than just “price transparency.” You should have healthcare that’s free at the point of service like people in other countries.
Riley Gaines@Riley_Gaines_

It's been 7 months since we had our baby and we're still receiving unexplained hospital bills in the mail. Hardly ever an adequate description of services. Just a QR code to pay online. It feels intentionally confusing and difficult to get answers. We want price transparency.

I predict that once the terrible drivers have moved on to fully self-driving transport, the disparity in accidents per mile between humans and machines will collapse into statistical noise.

@kantortech @Rothmus They assessed my land WAY THE HELL higher than the market was.... I would not call that fair. I had to argue and submit over a dozen documents over a 90+ day time just to get them down to anything close to market value. I had to go thru way the hell to much trouble.

This is the federal income tax play all over again. It started in 1913 as a “class tax” on the rich, hitting less than 1% of the population with a 1% rate above $3,000. It expanded during WWII into a mass tax on most workers through withholding, skyrocketing rates, base broadening, and bracket creep to fund wars and spending. The wealth tax will follow the same trajectory.
Chamath Palihapitiya@chamath

On page twenty-six of “The Billionaire Tax” proposal in California, it explains how the state legislature can convert from a Billionaire Tax to an Everyone Tax without voter approval. They can also adjust the tax to be a yearly tax, not just one time…again, without your approval. Intelligence test for you: if this was meant to just target Billionaires, why did they write this in?

@PerkovichSK @Rothmus You can argue about land value when its taken for a highway But if they assess taxable net worth in dollars, and demand a payment in dollars, it seems pretty straightforward.

My dad called me today “Hey, i’m struggling to pay my property tax for this year. It went up almost $1500 to $8188 for the year versus $6600 for last year. I’m confused, i thought taxes were not to increase for two years. Did yours go up as well? This really sucks! They are trying to drive us out of the state.” My dad is 76 and lives on social security. He’s lived in the same house since 1993. It’s been paid off for two decades. Yet he owes $8k in property taxes, or the state of Texas will take his home. This is criminal

@Kasparov63 Tovarish, that entire presidency was two overturned elections. The first was the unverifiable mail-in voting, and the second was government by cabinet and autopen as Biden made occasional appearances from a fake white house set.

@BlackOMAR13 The car has no consistent design language, borrows elements from different brands. Price for performance is great, but without the exclusivity factor of high expense it's not a desirable luxury item.

To put in perspective how stupid this is, assuming 4 people can sit in each of these cars, this entire convoy is transporting 24 people. For comparison, a standard city bus in Philadelphia comfortably seats about 40 not even including standing room.

@kantortech I typically value it at about $100 an hour. I use that for back of the envelope calculations on whether to keep things or throw them out, whether to hire someone to do something, etc. But hard to put a price tag on putting time into something if it's something I want to learn.

Whoah, self-driving cars compete with airlines. I never considered that till now.
Nahuel Hilal - TattooGuy@nahuelhilal

Yesterday I drove my @tesla 900 miles on FSD from Miami to Nashville and I realized it’s genuinely the better option. I fly that route 2 to 3 times a month. Flights are never under $400. Most times $600. Sometimes $800. Add Uber to and from both airports, or parking garage fees. Then factor in the delays, the cancellations, the security theater, the chaos, the guy next to you who hasn’t met deodorant yet. On the other hand: I pack healthy snacks, press one button, and the car just goes. I took calls. Replied to emails. FaceTimed my family. Ate without pulling over. Did everything I normally do on a travel day, except none of the stuff that makes travel days miserable. My biggest concern going in was range and charging. Here’s what actually happened: My bladder needed one extra stop the car didn’t even suggest. Most charging stops were under five minutes. Total cost for the whole trip was less than just the uber to the airport. And this was the base model Y. Now I’m thinking I should get something comfier and just make this the default.
