It’s 8am in Baltimore. Instead of reporting to work, Abacus Security officers are reporting to the picket line. Why? Because workers demand Abacus respect their right to form a union without intimidation or retaliatory firings.

We were proud to stand yesterday at the CT State Capital with students from Danbury, @CT4aDREAM and @SenatorJulie Kushner, as member-leader Teodora Ortiz spoke in favor of Senate Bill 91 and other measures that would protect sensitive areas in CT from ICE.

Safety of the residents is our #1 priority, are you going to put that on the line with strangers? If we go on strike security guards with no knowledge of your needs will replace us, will you really feel safe? Tell the Realty Advisory Board @RABOLR to stop the nonsense and take care of the 34, 000 @32BJSEIU workers who keep your buildings safe and secure!

@1010WINS New York City residential building workers are warning the Realty Advisory Board on Labor Relations that if they don't negotiate a fair contract by April 15, they are going on strike. The 34,000 essential residential workers—including doormen, porters and concierges-are mobilizing every day this week to set up strike headquarters across the city as they advocate for fair wages and to maintain their current healthcare. "Sometimes we have to let the [RAB] and everyone know, we are not to be taken advantage of, or for granted," concierge Justin Maloney told 1010 WINS. "We know you guys love us and need us, and it's reciprocated, but life is getting unaffordable right now in New York City. So we have to let them know, the [RAB] know, that we're going to fight for the benefits we deserve, no givebacks." Some workers spoke of the financial burdens they would face having to pay in for healthcare premiums they previously had covered. Many said that while they feel appreciated by their residents, the RAB needs to show the same support. “l've developed positive and strong relationships with all the residents," doorman Jordan Weiss said. “I really feel that residents should come out and support us during our campaign here." President of the RAB, Howard Rothschild, said in a statement that the group is "committed to working with 32BJ to reach a fair contract, but there is still significant distance between the parties." The likelihood of 0% rent increases across nearly one million rent-stabilized apartments in New York City for years during the entire life of this contract will significantly limit the industry's ability to support wage growth," the statement continued. "At the same time, co-ops and condos basically operate as non-profits and they are already contending with rising tax burdens and increased common charges. @32BJSEIU We Don’t Play! 💜
