With the crushing amount of car traffic that Cape Cod sees, it begs the question why we haven’t revived Amtrak’s previous Cape Codder service? There are so many license plates from NY and NJ, so why not enable them to take the train instead?

The Cape and Islands are lovely, but at what point is the traffic hassle just not worth it? Today's Starting Point wrestles with the big question. trib.al/QoCdKw3

Our company was founded a little more than a year ago ... but we've already built our first rowhouse My company is The American Housing Corporation.  We're a real estate development (and manufacturing) company building rowhouses designed for families: the American Starter Home Our mission is to solve the problem (at scale): "How can we build housing in places where young people already live, so they have kids and stay?"

For a half-century, America has critically under-built family-sized housing in our most dynamic cities and neighborhoods, rendering them childless and unaffordable. It's time to save the American Dream. Introducing The American Housing Corporation.

@aarmlovi Boston needs to massively streamline processes for housing. We should ban minimum parking requirements, legalize single-stair housing up to six stories (which is the real key to unlocking dense family-oriented housing), and legalize brownstones and row houses.

Gentle density is the right national YIMBY message But in the coastal superstars, it's completely inadequate Like, even as Boston's population stagnates far below 1950 levels, there are still people saying "oh Boston just needs a few triple deckers". It's delusional hopium

@OnlyInBOS The incredible lack a housing supply does not incentivize employers to open up shop here. Why would a new company bother if it’s super unaffordable for their employees to live here? The only path forward to fix this is to massively increase the supply of housing.

Boston’s biotech engine is sputtering 🧬 A PhD grad applied to 500 jobs with no luck. Lab space is sitting empty. Layoffs are spreading. Funding has fallen to the lowest level since 2017. The city built for biotech is feeling the slowdown. wsj.com/tech/biotech/p…

@FortPointer It’s mind boggling that they’re entertaining any large public parking garage when they haven’t yet eliminated minimum parking requirements for housing

At yesterday’s Council meeting, Councilor Flynn introduced his hearing order for a new public parking garage on Broadway. Conservative estimate: $20 million. Should a family moving to Fort Point today wait a few more decades before they see $1.00 in community/civic investment?

@berkie1 Boston needs to eliminate its minimum parking requirements citywide. The city shouldn’t be able to dictate how many cars someone should have to accommodate on private land.

New research shows 1 in 5 car owners want to live car-free, and a majority are open to it. The issue isn’t demand... it’s policy. Outdated zoning rules make walkable neighborhoods scarce, expensive, and often illegal to build across most communities. remainplaces.com/post/the-great…

@the_transit_guy Being able to build brownstones and row houses anywhere in Massachusetts would bring about a new era of housing abundance

@sam_d_1995 This is a great opportunity to remind people that Rome’s international airport allows full high-speed trains and small light-rail vehicles to use the same track. We should allow the same in NYC to bring the LIRR and Amtrak to JFK.

@RailPassengers Honestly, Boston’s transit system is great, but it still gets a lot of negative press due to decades of mismanagement. I’ve genuinely seen an improvement since the MBTA’s latest GM, Phil Eng, stepped in though.

To everyone that’s frustrated with the closure of the Green Line, we can mitigate some of impact of future work by building the Indigo Line from Riverside through Cambridge to North Station. The MBTA and Amtrak already use this route to move equipment.
Massachusetts YIMBY@ryanbebb

I won't rest until the @MBTA revives the Indigo Line, specifically the portion from Riverside -> West Station -> Cambridge -> North Station. If that route only took 20 minutes, we would remove countless cars from the road, and people wouldn't even need to go into the city center

In the MBTA’s response to my public records request about whether they’ve selected a manufacturer for the commuter rail’s future BEMUs, they stated that they have not yet picked one. It’s looking less and less likely that they’ll hit their 2028 target for service.

“We have the homeless pitted against the disabled. It’s kind of crazy.” A state law meant to ensure buildings are handicapped accessible has backfired in places like Worcester, where it discourages homeowners from undertaking major repairs by making them prohibitively expensive.
