@schubertBA Great question. The low pressure is due to overall removal of mass from the center of the storm. The sinking air is gradual and warms the core so it has very little impact because so much mass has already been removed due to the larger envelope of dynamics.

Watch as we zoom down into the record breaking eye. As mentioned on this platform by many, Melissa just broke a World record for the "driest" eye in any hurricane! Illustrates just how textbook this storm structure is. But what does that mean?? Inside the eyewall we have massive rising air. But what goes up must come down. Inside #melissa's eye there is strong sinking air, which crushes the clouds and the compression drys the air out (and the air warms too making it stable). That's why the eye is so pristine with zero clouds. Melissa is still getting stronger as of now!

Hey @robperillo! What's your guess? @ULGeosciences is playing "Is it Gumbo Weather* yet?" *defined as: 1st day with daily maximum temperature <70F. Last year (2024) was latest in last 120 years. We had to wait til Nov 20! We are not hoping for a repeat.
