Enjoy the weather this weekend Acadiana, as by next weekend, and through the rest of the month, it appears that there will be a moderate risk of heavy rainfall for much of eastern Texas and Louisiana during the period of May 24 through the 30th. Off the cuff estimates could be in the 5 to 10 inch range in hotspots during the 6 day period. But that far out it’s just a guess based on today’s models, and know that the hotspots will change. The forecast will have a lot of fine-tuning well through next week. BTW the portions of area have seen anywhere between 6 to 12 inches for the first half of the month of May. #lawx

Some shots from the 2026 Hurricane Awareness Tour. Stops were in Sarasota FL, Mobile AL, and Lake Charles LA to raise awareness for hurricane preparedness. Awareness was raised and good times with great friends were had!

Southerly flow from the Gulf and a stationary front favor increasing chances of heavy rainfall along with localized river and flash flooding across portions of the south-central and southeastern U.S. beginning next week and continuing into the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

After this weekend into early next week Acadiana will shift to an unsettled/wet pattern with models and long range outlooks trending wetter by the day. So enjoy this weekend, as the next one (Memorial Weekend) looks not as nice. Also note, rain chances, statistically speaking, trend downward in the latter part of the 10 day period, but that's due to uncertainty that far out. Some of the rain chance numbers for next weekend will probably go higher. Euro estimated rain totals over the 10 day period (below) will probably trend upward with time. The long-range outlook offers little change through the last days of this month! #lawx

Great start! Today the National Hurricane Center begins issuing it's daily tropical outlooks for the Atlantic Basin. Let's hope we see this as many times as possible over the next 199 days...til November 30! #tropics
