Fun fact, it takes about a 40gram meteorite to punch a hole in your roof, but only about 25 grams to kill you. Luckily, falling meteorites are rare.

BREAKING🚨: A massive meteor fragment discovered in northern Ohio could be the largest ever found in the state’s history, measuring a staggering 9 inches wide. The measurement remains unofficial and has not yet been confirmed. The rock was reportedly found near Cuyahoga County after a bright fireball streaked across the sky, triggering a powerful boom heard across multiple states. Officials say the space rock was originally about 6 feet wide and nearly 7 tons, with most of it burning up in the atmosphere as it broke apart. Only fragments are believed to have reached the ground. 📸: oregoncoastagates/ig

I promised my daughters I would take them meteorite hunting this week. But they have now pulled out the map, cross referenced paths and possible places they were already found and are now looking for the big ones. Insanity.

A park in the quiet Medina County community of Sharon Center is considered prime hunting ground in the search for fragments of the meteor that blazed across the sky on St. Patrick’s Day. fox8.com/news/meteorite…

A meteor - nearly 6 feet in diameter and weighing about 7 tons - entered Earth’s atmosphere near Cleveland, Ohio, on March 17, 2026, creating a light show in the sky and the opportunity to find pieces of the space rock on Earth.   The meteorites are suspected to be Eucrites, many of which come from the asteroid 4 Vesta. Watch to learn more about this fireball and how to find and care for meteorites!   Learn more at ares.jsc.nasa.gov/meteorite-falls

@NWSPittsburgh NE Ohio here and it sounded like a large tree limb hitting the roof and then rolling down the roof! We were about to check the attic. It seriously sounded that close. Shook the house!

Last night a meteoroid was seen (and heard) all across the west of Scotland. A blaze of light and a very loud explosion woke quite a few folk up. (Video was sent to me so I don’t have the credit. Apparently from Isle of Lewis.)

Managed to capture this meteor breaking apart earlier at 12:50am over western Scotland. Lasted around 8 seconds & could hear a distant faint rumble roughly 2 minutes after it disappeared. Excuse my reaction, was quite the sight😂☄️ #Meteor @VirtualAstro @bbcweather
