Last year, $9B of the $35B that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) granted for research was used for administrative overhead, what is known as “indirect costs.” Today, NIH lowered the maximum indirect cost rate research institutions can charge the government to 15%, above what many major foundations allow and much lower than the 60%+ that some institutions charge the government today. This change will save more than $4B a year effective immediately.

@Vwchick4ever @NIH Privatizing research and discoveries is extremely dangerous to society. These organizations provide knowledge that helps us to solve issues that affect everyone. Elon wants to shut down research programs in education institutions.

One could speculate that the faculty associations not represented may be facing even worse repression. They may be outnumbered in votes, may face retaliation if they speak up, or the repression "isn't bad enough" to justify participation in the ULP charge.

People arrested and cited in October of last year for the 110 Freeway protest against the genocide in Palestine are being charged by the LA City Attny. The four charges include failure to disperse, refusal to obey police, and obstruction of people’s movement in public.

Combined, the ten UC Chancellors took home $6.9 million dollars last year. Would you have guessed that the lowest salary is "only" $555,000?

The action was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace. Charges of this type are often dropped by the City Attorney. But @CityAttorneyLA has already tried to target activists for arrest, even against LAPD finding no evidence to do so.

“UC’s actions to suppress speech about Palestine on our campuses, which represents an illegal content-based restriction of faculty rights, sets an alarming precedent,” said CUCFA President Constance Penley. “Our unfair labor practice filing demands they change course..."
