People sometimes equate meshoptimizer (geometry processing library) with gltfpack (command line tool for glTF optimization) and mistakenly conclude gltfpack doesn't compress textures. When using official native binary builds of gltfpack, Basis Universal texture compression is a command line switch away (-tc). You can also downscale or limit texture sizes (e.g. -tl 1024), selectively apply UASTC for higher quality textures (e.g. -tu normal). If asset size is more important than on-device VRAM consumption, you can also use -tw to produce WebP compressed textures, but the VRAM overhead over Basis textures is substantial. For geometry & animation, by default gltfpack uses quantization to minimize VRAM consumption but doesn't compress data further; using -cc uses EXT_meshopt_compression extension to compress both (with an upcoming KHR variant that targets higher compression ratios). In addition, gltfpack will do full scene reorganization to try to minimize the number of draw calls and reduce scene complexity in other ways; it also supports producing GPU instanced scenes via EXT_mesh_gpu_instancing if you have assets with high number of instance counts (-mi). Russians are hunting innocent civilians on the streets. Women, children, war crimes in plain sight. They are trying to completely destroy the city. International coverage is almost zero & the situation is catastrophic. In this report, I embed with a drone patrol that are the city’s first line of defence. What I witnessed was brutality on an industrial scale. If Russia isn’t stopped, this will spread and Kherson will be a blueprint for cities across Europe in the future.
