@binarybits@NW_Horadam I don't have a dog in this fight but I find it really bizarre that people are this mad about a take that basically says "clickbait generates social media engagement"? It's not even an argument about the validity of left wing views?
@binarybits I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the culture war isn’t *real*. This is incredibly embarrassing to even care about. Vox doesn’t do good journalism so it’s not like you should be surprised that you were working for the buzzfeed of people who call themselves ‘wonks’.
@binarybits By by all account this doesn’t seem true, most reporting over years says Facebook has given a platform to far right sources like Dan Bongino.
@binarybits did you ever consider that perhaps there exists a sizable audience that supports leftist policies and feels underserved by legacy media, large enough that its influence can cause measurable traffic spikes to the few outlets willing to explore issues of concern to them?
@binarybits "After the worst recession in generational memory and the Obama administration's obsession with bipartisanship in the face of conservative hostility, intersectional audiences weren't looking for neoliberal talking points. Clearly this was the Facebook algorithm at work."
