@binarybits @zacharywefel Come on. This is sidestepping the main issue of scale and source. “Besides electricity and water” when it’s massive amounts of both. AI growth is inevitable and potentially great for humanity, but you’re doing it no favors by ignoring the gargantuan energy and resource strain.

@newanimeavi @zacharywefel ChatGPT says data centers use a total of ~5% of electricity in the US, and this could grow to ~10% by 2030. That does not seem that gargantuan to me.

@newanimeavi @zacharywefel It is putting some strain on our electric grid, but that's because our processes for upgrading the grid are dysfunctional, not because growing the grid by 2-3% a year is crazy.
