a11y friends: what advice do you have for software engineers looking to become a11y specialists? Blog posts, talks, courses, or things to build & practice – any tips are welcome!

I am an accessibility specialist and yet I have never had a satisfactory answer to "how do I get started?" My own path was winding and irregular and definitely not as efficient as it could've been; and anything I can think of feels too steep for beginners.

@codeability This is definitely how I feel about it too. It took a lot of consuming information from a ton of sources before I felt I had enough knowledge to even scratch the surface. But @LittleKope has a11y-with-lindsey.ck.page/products/pre-o… Which is one of the most beginner focused resources I've seen

@codeability @kevinrj Start using a accessibility audit tools and screen readers to validate your own stuff! Leveling up on your own products is a good step to learn new techniques on something familiar.
