The US and Us. The United States Congress devoted time for public hearing on Nigeria's worsening insecurity. They brought different persons to testify from their perspectives and experiences. They talked about genocide, banditary, shari'a, blasphemy laws and the things that concern us that our own lawmakers rarely talk about. They mentioned people like Deborah who was murdered by some Muslim fanatics in a country governed by a secular constitution and her killers have not yet been brought to book. These are issues our legislators shy away from talking about, yet they are at the root of our problems as a Nation. Everywhere you look, it seems our politicians and elected officials are carrying on with business as usual as if nothing is at stake. Have you heard that our NASS had any ɗebate about Deborah and other victims of extrajudicial murder by religious fanatics? Have you ever heard that our legislators talked about the meddlesomeness of religion in our constitution and politics? At what point will members of NASS begin to hold private and public conversations on these uncormfortable issues derailing and sabotaging the smooth sail of the ship of state? Nigeria is supposed to be a secular state which guarantees freedom of religion. As it is now, it is a waywardly religious state begging for some freedom of secularity to survive. What the bigots among us rarely achieve with tribal and ethnic sentiments, they are exceedingly doing well with religion. Yet our lawmakers eerily mope on in their 'hallowed' chambers.

I would have sworn Sheikh Mahmoud Gumi wrote the script he read, but it’s logical to understand why many Muslims cannot grasp the concept of a genocide when it is “infidels” that are being annihilated. This should also dispels any disappointment anyone might have about why @AminaJMohammed would never utter a word about the targeted and deadly attacks on Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
