@justinskycak Yes! I had to convince my son when he was in elementary and middle school that he actually LOVED math, but hated math class. Big difference. He's almost 17 now and loves physics and algebra and wants to be an engineer.

People don't hate math; they hate the feeling of being lost. They hate the compounded debt of unlearned prerequisites.

When I got my masters at a large state university I tutored for the football team. They assigned me a player who needed “a little more help”... I asked him to write a paragraph about himself. Not a single correct & complete sentence. He read at the 3rd grade level. The worst part was that he was such a gentleman. All he wanted was to do work hard & be successful. But he failed out & went home, his dream crushed. he never knew “what he’d done wrong”. But the reason was in fact that he was such a lovely kid. And one of the best football players in the history of his HS. And no one wanted to crush his dream by failing him because he couldn’t read or write. All that time they told themselves they were being kind & doing him a favor. This was when I discovered the immense risk of perverse incentives.

Some say that holding 8-year-olds back a grade because they can’t read will negatively impact their “self-esteem”. What about the “self-esteem” of students when they become 18-year-olds who graduate from high school illiterate because they were just moved through the system?

Hey babe, remember when we went to the beach last July and spent nearly a week in the sun and it was the best time and do you want to do it again soon? @AmyLytle12

At the Tenn–Kentucky game, I saw a father and his two sons leaning into each other the whole time. Not for a photo. I thought, “Wow, this guy must be an affectionate dad.” I wish I could walk around with a bag of “Dad, you’re doing a great job!” tokens to hand out to dads!😎

My parents took my phone once in the middle of a severe depression, while on family vacation in the middle of the Georgia woods. I thought I would legitimately die over Thanksgiving break. I pitched a fit accordingly. 24 hours later I was bored, and my tantrum had tuckered itself out. I ended up hiking, skateboarding with my brother, toasting marshmallows, and having one of the best vacations of my entire childhood. I can still taste the cranberry sauce and hot chocolate. It doesn’t take a genius to see what the phones are doing to the youth. It doesn’t take a massive campaign, or a law to change it. Just a strong stomach for teenage tantrums and a patience that can outlast them. Take the damn phones.

young people replying “if i didn’t have a phone i would KILL MYSELF” are proving my point.

I like this... A lot of what I'm seeing makes it seem like #Titans fans want to abandon anything related to the colors/style of the Titans and adopt the colors/style of the Oilers. Yes, the Titans were the Oilers but they are 1st and foremost, the Titans. Don't lose that.

Lots of Titans House questions. Context: TitansHouse is where they sell PSLs - “an immersive experience with a stadium model and replica suites” This logo appears prominently on the wall 👇🏼

⚠️1/28 Noon Update⚠️ We are thrilled to report that we are now down to around 284 outages thanks to the hard work of our crews! Since our last update, they have repaired the larger remaining outages. We appreciate the patience of our members in those areas and are so glad to have your power restored. As we celebrate this feat, we know that we still have members waiting in the cold for power to be restored. Crews are actively working to restore outages still impacting multiple members across Williamson County and won't stop until they're resolved. The vast majority of our remaining outages are impacting single homes/meters. We can confirm that we have crews assigned to all current single outages. This doesn't necessarily mean that crews are on-site at that outage at this point—they may still be finishing repairs in another location or en route— but it is on their work list. As ice continues to melt today, there is always the risk that additional vegetation could fall onto our equipment, causing more outages. Know that our entire team appreciates your continued patience and support! We are so thankful to serve these incredible communities. 📍 Please visit mte.com/Outages to see our outage map. ☎️ To report an outage, call 877-777-9020 or use myMTE. 📢 Because updates change frequently, get the latest one on our main page at facebook.com/MidTnElectric.

@_LoneStarHalo_ @MrZachG @AmyLytle12 Seriously! I teach 6th (middle school) & our curriculum coach said she wanted to see more inquiry lessons. Lady, they don’t know the continents, they have no foundation from which to inquire! 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's a mistake that Geography isn't at least a bit protected by making it a required course. The "embed if you want to" model clearly leads to nobody teaching or learning it.
Frederick M. Hess@rickhess99

Do Students Still Need to Learn Geography? You know, it’s tough to grasp what's going on about Venezuela or Greenland if you don’t know where they are. I discuss with ⁦@BernerEd⁩, at ⁦@educationweek⁩. edweek.org/technology/opi…

@PhillipLytle Also, I did all of this decision making when our children were young. Now, I don't want to and will eat a can of spinach if that's what is in the pantry.

I'm convinced that if I didn't plan meals, grocery shop, and cook, my wife would starve. I mean, when she lived on her own before we married, she would open a can of spinach and call it a day. @AmyLytle12, do you concur?

@PhillipLytle I was specifically thinking of leadership in sports organizations, schools, and even mission organizations. Churches, too. Changing good leadership may be needed to go from average/maintenance to excellence.

Sometimes, good leaders need to step down to solve problems such as organizational ruts. Agree or disagree?
