On modern monetary theory and loss of the middle class Part 1: Humans are on the whole bright and innovative. We continuously get better at producing things of value. Each year, year-over-year, we can produce ever more with a human labor hour. In other words, we get more efficient over time (efficiency gains). So, if we are able to produce more with each hour, why do the prices keep going up?

@travis4nh Arizona has an Empowerment Scholarship Account Program, which provides funds to homeschooling households. The basic idea is if we don't want the government's service (public schools) than the state will provide the funds for us to get our own. azed.gov/esa/

@ColinGBooth @AnthemBCBS Colin, I'm trying to help you out, so why are you insulting me? I have top-tier insurance and I still pay with cash. The co-pays are more often higher than the cash price, particularly, if it is common medication (generics available).

My partner just had surgery and @AnthemBCBS is prior-auth delaying her pain meds, so she’s just in agony pleading with them. Same week they denied a prior-auth for my RX because they claimed my dr office’s appeal letter wasn’t an appeal by their definition. Should be so illegal

There are issues with literal versus figurative interpretations in nearly all branches of Christianity. For example, when a snake is talking and a fruit holds the key to everlasting life, I assume allegory. Yet, most Baptists assume literal. Not to worry as this distinction isn't salvational.

@ChristianHeiens @travis4nh I was just teaching my son something equivalent about Jiu-jitsu. You can't just defend position because eventually your opponent will be successful in their attack. You must always seek to advance your position until your opponent has no choice but to tap (quit).

A major red pill is concluding that Robert Conquest’s Second Law applies to the government itself. “Any organization not explicitly right-wing will sooner or later become left-wing.”

@jeremykauffman You know exactly what you're doing. Trying to make it seem like all Muslims have some latent faith based terroristic gene when the truth is that this guy's wife and kids got blown up and he went nuts. If you want to pretend you don't see the difference have at it.

If Muslims will attack America over actions Israel takes in the Middle East, then Muslims probably shouldn't live here
Fenix Ammunition@FenixAmmunition

@TheQuartering This happened specifically because of Israel's actions in Lebanon. So, like it or not, we absolutely are being subjected to the ramifications of what the self described Jewish state is doing. It's Muslim terror yes. Take one more step and ask yourself why it's happening.

It is telling that you are trying to attack his associations rather than his arguments. Please explain why memetic cleansing or even ethnic cleansing is inherently bad. Side Note: considering the "he/him" you've added to your profile, it appears that you should be swept up in the Memetic Cleansing that he is describing

@Not_the_Bee Per 1 Timothy Chapter 2, she is unqualified for the pastor title and role. As such, she is deceived which is clearly evident in this brief discussion. She clearly doesn't know scripture and refuses to speak the truth. Yes, taxes are given/taken under compulsion.

This is a touchy subject. We can all agree that the 2nd Ammendment exists so that citizens can kill leaders of an oppressive government. We can also acknowledge that we live under an insanely oppressive government. Both true points, but combining these two points into a single coherent point is considered a call for violence.

We're in contact with the NHDOJ regarding a recent post that explained finer points of libertarian ethics regarding treatment of income tax enacters. The NHDOJ requested we take this post down to reduce their workload. We've complied voluntarily to save taxpayer money. We are asking the DOJ to issue a memo clarifying to the public the expansive limits of free speech under Brandenburg vs Ohio. The NHDOJ contains plenty of good people doing solid work. We ask the public to instead harass Andru Volinsky and any other shitlibs harassing the NHDOJ. They actually deserve it. LPNH remains committed to turning New Hampshire into a place where it is illegal for anyone who wants to enact an income tax to live.

@joeroganhq I thought this was internet nonsense, but then we got one delivered with an online order. It was double labled at 10 days apart. It smelled quite rancid when opened. We obviously returned it to the store.

The "eye of the needle" is widely believed to be reference to the secondary gate of a city, nicknamed the needle, not a sowing needle. In order for a camel to enter through the much smaller gate, it had to drop to its knees and crawl. Jesus might have been creating a visual of a rich man humbling himself on his knees. Of course, some call this a myth and debunk it by saying there wasn't an "eye of the needle" gate in Jerusalem as opposed to a gate named or nicknamed "the needle" or broader use of the term for secondary gates into cities. Believe what you will...

One of the many things that drives me crazy about folk-libertarianism is that people infected with it can't / refuse to understand this trivial point. Investment in productive enterprise is the root of all economic growth.
Gabriel@gbrl_dick

the answer is actually very simple: deflation is very, very bad for an economy, because it rewards you for not spending or investing. we target a low, predictable level of inflation because this encourages people to spend and invest, and also avoids the pains of high inflation

@travis4nh That data comes from the Federal Reserve and their dataset starts in 1948. Perhaps they deceptively edited it to 1948, but that isn't my intent in using it. I'll try to find earlier data when I have the time.

11/ Also, a graph that starts at 1948 is deceptive and takes the post-war rebuilding of Europe where the US was the sole surviving economic power (we had something insane like 2/3 of world factories at that point !!!) and sets that as the baseline is clipping the data.

Everything you're saying were talking points in college economics classes. The real problem with monetary inflation may be in answering who gets to spend the newly produced money and on what can they spend it. The end result is a short-term stable society and long-term destruction.

9/ I see no evidence to support this claim x.com/timmmbabwe/sta…
Tim@timmmbabwe

@travis4nh I wouldn’t argue with that in theory if it were a small constrained incremental amount, but the history of monetary inflation is mostly reactive printing in panics and proactive debt spending outside of panics

@travis4nh IMO...all insurance should be "no-frills, high-deducible catastrophic coverage plans" Why pay a middle man to pay for a routine doctor visit that you'd expect to have every year? Do you buy car insurance to cover an oil change or even new tires?

Libertarians talking about age of consent is a meme, but it really is worth talking about: 1) The idea that an adolescent goes to bed and then wakes up as an adult the next day feels absurd. Is one really an adolescent one second and an adult the next? Shouldn't there be some extra steps or procedure to reach full legal personhood? 2) If there is an exact universal moment that adolescents become adults, then the variability by region implies either a lot of rape or artificial delays in family formation (both bad!). Societal taboos as well as fear of being seen as having ulterior motives discourage people from discussing these subjects. Luckily I am built different so we can have these conversations here.
