Secretary of State Marco Rubio just gave one of the BEST interviews I have watched in defense of President Trump's Ukraine and Russia strategy. President Trump picked a seasoned media veteran like Rubio for moments like these, here is the full interview!

God this is awful. For three years Zelenskyy has been a public relations genius. But this is not how you play Trump.

@Squonkistador @emilyjashinsky Zelensky was biting his lip for a number of untruths. Then Vance completely ignored what Zelensky had been saying and ridiculously blamed Biden for causing Putin to invade. That derailed amongst other things Vance immediately went on to sat.

@emilyjashinsky Perhaps the most helpful observation yet. The meeting didn’t jump the track until the 40-minute mark, and neither Trump nor Vance derailed it. Regrettably the legacy media who will curate this for the American public aren’t as introspective as Ms. Jashinsky.

One of those times where you absolutely have to watch the full meeting and not just the highlights, otherwise you’ll be lost. Love him or hate him, Trump started the meeting by praising Ukraine. Before Zelensky turned to him, Vance started by saying Russia “destroyed” Ukraine. Zelensky decided to turn the meeting into a public spat. Maybe you think he was right to go on offense, but he was absolutely not ambushed.

I watched the full press conference. I do think it presents a more complete picture of what happened and I wish I had seen it in its entirety before commenting. I wasn't aware there was a longer version. While it doesn't change my view of the behavior displayed in the ten minute footage, I think Zelensky also deserves some responsibility for this. He showed an error in strategical judgement in trying to discuss some of these things at the press conference rather that behind closed door, which likely caused Vance/Trump to feel more antagonistic and allow them to ultimately scapegoat him as they did. Keep in mind that Zelensky was also unable to fully express his ideas at times due to interruptions and challenges with speaking in a foreign language. I think he could have handled it better, especially knowing the types of personalities he was dealing with, but I still find what happened appalling. I'll not sure whether that was ever going to really impact US support either way though. I suspect minds were already made up to go a certain way.

Zelensky was clearly provoking and antagonising Vance. Throughout the 45 minute exchange, Zelensky kept shunning any talk of peace or ceasefires. Him and Johnson have wanted this war to drag on and on so that they can continue gratifying the globalists and lining their pockets. Zelensky is a corrupt drug addict and a sorry excuse for a leader.

The spat in the White House last night is regrettable and will make Putin feel like the winner. But this is not the end of the story, far from it. A peace deal is essential and Ukraine needs the right security guarantees.

So what exactly should Zelenskyy be thanking Trump/Vance for? Congress, yes. The American taxpayer, yes. But Trump has not done anything for Ukraine yet. All Trump team does is offer gifts to Putin. It's the Russian dictator who they should be demanding thanks from. 12/ END

Zelensky has thanked Trump, Congress, and the American people many times. But let's be clear: when Trump and Vance said that THEY are trying to help Ukraine right now, and need to be thanked for the work personally, there are reasons to wonder. 1/ THREAD

@bonchieredstate There are countries in Europe that have more of an incentive but have given far more tjan the US in aid in relation to their GDP. So that might seem like Zelensky is being antagonistic but actually it is just honesty.

@bonchieredstate In fact Zelenskyy was surely biting his tongue as Trump said things like Europe gets it's money back. Something that multiple european heads of state have already corrected Trump on. He can blame Biden for not making it a loan if he wants to but what is the relevance here.

Trump and Vance spent 40 minutes holding their tongues as Zelensky took multiple shots and was generally antagonistic and demanding. Things didn't go off the rails until Zelensky interjected to try to interrogate Vance. But sure, it was an "ambush." Alter-reality stuff.
