EDITORIAL: Canada unprepared for new world order The problem is that 10 years of failed economic policies by Justin Trudeau means we're not ready for the new world order described by Prime Minister Mark Carney in his speech to the World Economic Forum torontosun.com/opinion/editor…

One question for grocers. There is a blackout period every year between November 1 and February 1 across the country, during which grocers do not accept price increases from suppliers. How, then, did food prices rise so sharply in December—right in the middle of that blackout period?

"Canada has a policy-driven food inflation problem, and until we are willing to say that out loud, nothing meaningful will change." Link to full article below.

Mike von Massow, a food economist at the University of Guelph, told CBC today that food inflation is largely a matter of consumer perception and that prices are, to a large extent, declining. That is not what we observe in our data. cbc.ca/news/business/…

GOLDSTEIN: If Canada can’t build a new oil pipeline, we're not a serious country Naysayers base arguments on objections of Indigenous groups, lack of private-sector interest, but the fact is the world has changed and if we don't, we'll get run over. torontosun.com/opinion/column…

“The nakedly political decision to protect central-Canadian EVs at the expense of canola and other exports also hurts our productivity. As international trade lawyer Mark Warner put it: “We’re asking farmers to take it in the teeth for something … that really isn’t being produced in Canada yet.” Canada leads the world in canola production. Exports to China alone were over $4 billion. By contrast, the EV industry faces weak sales in North America, is not internationally competitive and, rather than creating revenue, is subsidized by taxpayers to the tune of more than $50 billion. And the economic costs of agricultural tariffs could be long-term as other countries, including Australia, replace our exports to China. A question all Canadians should consider: If our manufacturing industries were in Manitoba rather than Ontario or Quebec, would Ottawa be as enthusiastic about protecting them despite the negative results from doing so? No, we didn’t think so. “ financialpost.com/opinion/ottawa…

Doug Ford was asked about taking Crown Royal off the shelf. He said it's not a threat, he'll take it off the shelves as soon as the plant closes. It's a horrible message - piss off the premier and he'll use his power to block your business. Maybe I'm wrong. What do you think?
