The UAE is 50% through its new West-East Pipeline. Once complete, a meaningful share of Abu Dhabi’s crude export capacity runs directly to Fujairah without touching the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has threatened to close the Strait roughly a dozen times in the past decade. Every time it does, tanker insurance spikes and markets react. The UAE looked at that exposure and decided to spend money on the problem rather than wait it out. Fujairah already handles a large portion of Gulf bunkering traffic. Adding dedicated pipeline export capacity there turns it into a terminal that operates independently of whatever is happening at the Hormuz end. That’s the whole idea. 50% complete probably means operational within two to three years, which puts it close to the window most Gulf analysts expect Iranian nuclear negotiations to either resolve or collapse for good. Whether that’s coincidence or planning is hard to say, but the UAE doesn’t tend to build things by accident.

I have previously offered amendments for SAVE America Act to be placed on some of these bigger bills, but they would not be considered by House Leadership. I again will be offering an amendment this time to the NDAA, to place the SAVE AMERICA ACT on it. Thune will not do the right thing. IF THIS FAILS IT MUST GO ON FISA.
