As the sun sets tonight, Passover begins for Jewish communities in BC and worldwide. People will gather to celebrate with songs, prayers, readings from the Haggadah and the Seder, a ritual feast that includes symbolic foods. Wishing a meaningful Passover to all who celebrate.

URGENT: UN experts @FranceskAlbs and @profbensaul deplore #Israel’s adoption of the death penalty law which violates international law and risks discriminatory application against #Palestinians and call for its immediate repeal.

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 Iran is turning Trump's war into a cash machine. The Strait of Hormuz closure pushed global oil prices up, but Iran can still export its own oil through the strait. The U.S. withdrew sanctions on Iranian oil in a desperate attempt to bring down prices, so Iran no longer sells at a discount. Result: Iran's daily oil export revenue jumped from about $115 million in February to roughly $139 million in March. But it gets better. Iran is now allowing ships from "non-hostile" states like China, Russia, India, and Pakistan through the strait, but they have to use a narrow passage between two heavily militarized Iranian islands. Reports say Iran is charging up to $2 million per ship as an informal toll. If this becomes the new normal and traffic picks back up, the toll system could bring in hundreds of millions per month in foreign currency. For context, Egypt gets around $800 million to $1 billion a month from the Suez Canal in strong periods. There are also reports Iran is considering only allowing oil tankers through if their cargo is denominated in yuan instead of dollars, which would pressure the dollar's reserve status and help Iran avoid Western sanctions. Iran turned a military conflict into a business model. Source: TLDR News
