@CharlesMichel @vonderleyen Sir, regardless of whatever interests are involved, Turkey has invaded and continues to occupy with 40,000 troops a large part of an EU member-state. From a former top-level official of the EU, one would expect upholding of EU values and the principle of solidarity with members.

VdL said nothing outrageous. We don't call it the "long arm of Ankara" for nothing. It is high time the Commission started speaking honestly about Turkey as a geopolitical and civilizational rival. Turkey has its own aims which regularly clash with our interests. It is the Commission's duty to stand up for Europe and Europeans, and apparently it is a big shock for many Turks and other Mohammedans online that Turkey is not part of that equation.

International Law is DEAD
It died when the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and NOT ONE country he visited enforced it.
The UN passed countless ceasefire resolutions for Gaza. Ignored. The ICJ ruled Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza is ILLEGAL under international law. Also ignored.
When you start enforcing International Law for EVERYONE, then you can quote it.

Under international law, transit through waterways like the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and free of charge. This is what leaders made clear in their call on reopening the Strait today. Any pay-for-passage scheme will set a dangerous precedent for global maritime routes. Iran has to abandon any plan to levy transit fees. Europe will play its part in restoring the free flow of energy and trade, once a ceasefire takes hold. The EU’s Aspides naval mission is already operating in the Red Sea and can be quickly strengthened to protect shipping across the region. This could be the fastest way to provide support.
