@LauraEWebsterr It's a funny joke that references anal see and the laxative qualities of curry. 😆 Fail to see any homophobia whatsoever. Also fail to see any sense of humour on the part of the pearl clutchers

NEW: We are publishing the disgusting homophobic joke Malcolm Offord told and had to apologise for. It is in the public interest that people know the abhorrent language the Reform UK Scotland leader chose to use Refusing to publish this would effectively be protecting him.

@albieamankona @estherckrakue It's an understandable desire to promote and protect ethnic identity and heritage in the face of uninvited and rapid demographic change. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that

People are arguing against a position that no one is actually making. No one is saying a woman of Ghanaian heritage born in England is ethnically English. The argument is this: you can be civically English without being ethnically English. Take @estherckrakue and me. We both have Ghanaian surnames and neither of us are white. She is fully ethnically Ghanaian. I am half ethnically Ghanaian and half ethnically English. So I am ethnically and civically English. She is not ethnically English, but she is still civically English. That is the entire point people keep dodging. We both live here. We have both integrated. That makes us both English in a civic sense. The real disagreement is this: Some people want “English” to be ethnic only, and push everyone else into “British”. But the public does not think that way. Polling shows most people are comfortable calling black and brown Brits English in a civic sense. So what is this really about? Why are some people so determined to pretend civic English identity doesn’t exist?

@TalkTV @JuliaHB1 @AndrewBoff The usual "why does it bother you?"dismissive tactic deployed yet again. Well, it clearly bothered the people who wrote the statement. That wasn't accidental use of language

@albieamankona Your argument only works if Islam and Judaism were equal in terms of wider societal impact. The Jewish community is tiny, economically net contributors, keeps itself to itself and generally causes no trouble....

There is a glaring double standard in how some people treat Muslims and Jews in this country. I’m Anglican, and public displays of religiosity aren’t especially my thing. But I do believe in the British tradition of religious freedom, and that principle only means anything if it’s applied consistently. If we accept Jewish community services such as Hatzola and Shomrim, we should be equally comfortable accepting Eid prayers in Trafalgar Square. What’s intolerable is the rank hypocrisy. The same people who applaud Jewish-run community services as admirable civic contribution are often the first to sneer at Muslims for comparable expressions of faith, suddenly recasting them as cultural overreach or “parallel societies.” It’s not principle, it’s prejudice dressed up as concern.
Shahzad Younas@ShahzadYounas_

It's interesting that Muslims in the UK are often told we "don't integrate", however many don't know that Jewish communities have their own ambulance and police services. I can imagine the uproar if Muslims had such services. I've no problem with it, only the double standard.

According to Ed Balls, the Islamic terror attack on ambulances is the fault of... criticism of Islam. Imagine this pudgy midwit blaming criticism of white supremacists for a white supremacist attack. If we ever had one.
Campaign for Media Standards@4mediastandards

After an antisemitic attack on a Jewish volunteer ambulance service, you’d expect focussed questions about the rise and threat of antisemitism in the UK. Not @edballs on @GMB this morning. Instead, he tried to shift the discussion – asking whether criticism of a mass iftar event in Trafalgar Square is “causing problems” for the Jewish community. This isn’t balance or insight; its poor journalism that misses the point and dilutes the seriousness of antisemitism. Well handled by @DovForman for staying on point.

@alexmassie @iainmartin1 OR. 43% of pupils have ALWAYS needed extra support but previously we were happy for them to leave school without much in the ways of qualifications to go into trades or manual jobs that no longer really exist.

I'm pretty sure that 43% of pupils do not in fact need additional support but that we have instead, as in other areas, expanded & lowered the criteria for eligibility so it seems as though 43% of kids need this. You could easily create a scenario in which 70% do too.
Anas Sarwar@AnasSarwar

43% of Scottish pupils need extra support. The SNP cut it anyway. Scottish Labour will fund 1,500 more classroom assistants - including 300 for ASN - so no child is left behind. The choice in May: more of the same, or a better future for our kids.

British patriot Adrian Waring was jailed for 14 years for raping a baby and filming it. He also raped a dog. If he was a brown Muslim man called Abdul, Reform and Restore Britain supporters would tweet about it. Why are they silent?

If Celtic win the title, they will do so with most defeats by any top-flight champion in a ≤ 38 match season since Celtic in 1978/79 (9 losses). Rangers lost 8 in both 1993/94 (44 match season) & 1934/35. No other top-flight Scottish Champion has ever lost more than 7 games.

If you’re a muslim - enjoy yourself - I wouldn’t raise a finger to harm you for no reason But I’m tired of the ridiculous notion being put out there that we have to respect your faith I’m embarrassed with the fawning displays of some politicians and people pretending it’s charming that you believe in a load of supernatural bullshit written by a bullying psychopath from the mediaeval era What you believe is absolutely stupid Again - I wouldn’t harm you - but I absolutely reserve the freedom and the right to say that your belief system is stupid and nasty and causes real world damage

If a one-off public prayer by Muslims feels “intimidating” to you, that reaction says more about your prejudice against Muslims than about the people praying.
Allison Pearson@AllisonPearson

Most British people do not want members of any faith ostentatiously praying en masse outdoors at a national landmark. It is intimidating and it is not our culture. You have had one Christian arrested for silently praying outside an abortion clinic! Be gone, Starmer!

@TheTinMenBlog I remember an episode of Men Behaving Badly in the 90s. Gary says something oafish. Dorothy hits him in the nuts, uppercuts him as he's bent over. Then walks over him as he's on the ground. Cue tons of canned laughter at the good ol' slapstick

For so long, violence by women has been seen as a joke. Something to roll your eyes, laugh, and smile at; the butt of a thousand SitComs gags, the target of endless excuses, and outrageous rebukes of ‘its not that bad’, ‘she didn’t mean to’, ‘he deserved it’, etc. So many people think, a man who is being abused by his female partner has to simply endure it, to hide and run away. Some think a man who does so is weak. Others believe a man's physical strength makes him impervious to such acts of violence by a woman, and we needn’t spare a moments thought. Well, it was only a few weeks ago, when I was contacted by the wife of a man who was formerly in the SAS, who in a previous relationship was driven to a suicide attempt due to abuse against him. This is a man trained to kill, and endure, by the most elite special forces on the planet, being driven to a suicide attempt by a woman half his size. Clearly our notion of violent, abusive women is not quite right. So do popular depictions of female violence against men have to change? And how can we ever expect male victims of abuse to seek help, when all they see is this sicking parade of jokes, skits and minimisation, with them as the protagonist? What do you think? @GorgieTalk It has been the most baffling thing. We have went the whole season playing centre halves and midfielders at right back, despite signing two. No amount of tactical nuances hides the fact that this has been a huge recruitment failing that is starting to cost us.

🧩 The Christian Borchgrevink mystery Whilst the right back issue remains a hot topic what causes great concern is the lack of transparency around the former Valernga captain. In originally as the solution to our right back issue, initial setback with a thigh injury the latterly a hamstring injury is there more to the Borchgrevink absence than meet the eye? Countless photos and videos reflect Borch in training which begs the question of why do we never see him in any matchday squad and why does he sit behind a CB (Steinwender) and a CM (McEntee) in the pecking order of a problem position. Hopefully @HeartsStandard_ or @edinburghsport will address the mystery around this one.
