The death penalty could absolutely save money and be a strong deterrent if the penalty was carried out shortly after conviction instead of keeping them on death row for decades while they file endless appeals. Executing someone is cheap and obviously more cost efficient than providing them meals and housing for their entire life. All you’re doing here is making an argument for carrying out the death penalty more quickly and efficiently. And I agree. You also aren’t addressing the number one reason for the death penalty, which has nothing to do with cost or even deterrence. The primary reason is justice. Justice is giving to a person what they are due. A man who brutally murders a young girl is due the ultimate penalty. We should execute child killers because execution is the most proper and right and just response to such a crime. Keeping such a person alive and forcing society to feed and house and clothe them until their natural death is unjust, improper. He deserves to die. Even you admit this. And so he should. It’s really that simple.
Fr Matthew P. Schneider, LC@FrMatthewLC

The question is not whether he deserves execution (he does), but whether we should execute him (we shouldn't). In the USA, executing people does not reduce crime, protect people (at least if incarcerated in more protective prisons), or save money compared to long term imprisonment. Executing people hardens us as a society to others. All systems of capital punishment there are systems to protect the executioner from the deed, showing the recognition of how such acts are bad for them as human beings, even when they agree in principle it's moral. In the US, the evidence & ethics are against having any executions.

I am challenging any death penalty opponent — there are millions of them, allegedly — to step up to the plate right now and explain why this guy should not be executed. His guilt is established beyond any doubt whatsoever. His crime is utterly savage and heinous. Tell us why he doesn’t deserve to die. Go ahead.

Purgatory is a demonic lie cooked up by men to keep souls in bondage! The Bible NEVER mentions it. NOT ONCE. Hebrews 9:27 thunders: “It is appointed for man to die ONCE, and after that comes JUDGMENT!” No middle ground. No cosmic car wash. No post-death suffering to “earn” heaven. Jesus’ blood is ENOUGH. It cleanses us from ALL sin (1 John 1:7). His one sacrifice perfected His people forever (Hebrews 10:14). The thief on the cross didn’t go to purgatory; he went straight to paradise with Christ (Luke 23:43). Stop swallowing Rome’s fairy tale! This is a FALSE TEACHING designed to rob Christ of His glory and keep you trusting in works instead of grace. If this garbage still deceives you, REPENT and get back to the Word alone. Sola Scriptura!

@5Solas2 Catholics established canon, and compiled and produced the Bible. If the Bible wasn’t intended to be the entirety of faith by those who did all that, it should really make you question sola scriptura.

The reason Roman Catholics hate sola scriptura is because much of their theology cannot be found in it.

@AlexDuncanTX You’re wrong. Repent and convert. You cite the Bible. But it was Catholicism (guided by the Holy Spirit) that established canon and produced it. Also, Christ founded a church and gave apostles authority - He didn’t hand anyone a Bible.

ENOUGH of the Roman deception! The Catholic Church is NOT the “first Church,” the “mother Church,” or the rock Christ built upon. That’s a man-made lie used to prop up a Pope no apostle ever knew. Look at the text they twist: “Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah… And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.’” (Matthew 16:16-18)“On this rock” does NOT mean Peter himself. Peter (Petros) = a small stone. The Rock (Petra) = the massive bedrock of Peter’s confession: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” The Church is built on faith in Jesus Christ, not on a man, not on “apostolic succession,” not on Rome. The true Church exploded at Pentecost when thousands confessed Christ as Lord (Acts 2). Jerusalem, not Rome, was the center. The apostles were a team under the Headship of Christ alone. No Pope in the New Testament. No “mother church” in the New Testament. Only one foundation: “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). Wake up. Be convicted. Be inspired. Ditch the traditions that exalt a man over the Messiah. Stand on the unchanging Word and the unshakable Rock, Jesus Christ alone. The gates of hell will not prevail against the Church built on faith in Him.

@GuitarmanJoel They were literally welcome at that mass. While I do favor more modest and/or professional clothing for church, people clutching their pearls over this are ignoring the fact that these people woke up early to worship God. I’m just happy people are showing up to mass.

This is so dumb. It was a special Mass. I’m sure most of these people, who are dedicated enough to the Sunday obligation that they’re going to Mass before running 24 miles, don’t come like this every week.

@TheCatholicEngr The pearl clutching over this is insane. They are at mass. Celebrate that. Most baptized Catholics are not at mass every week. Let’s lift up those who actually practice in our post Christendom-culture instead of trying to be ‘holier than thou’.

I saw the picture of the marathon runners attending Mass in short shorts and tank tops I just gotta say To me, they went against the first commandment i.e to not put "strange gods" above the one true God If the runners had always intended on going to Mass before the Marathon, they could've planned more church appropriate clothing the night before, or brought a change of clothes and changed in the bathroom But they put the marathon above God and did not give Him the respect He deserves It's really sad and disheartening.
