Daily reminder that the RAM companies run as a cartel that uses patent law to ensure no one else can ever make RAM and that they have been cartel busted repeatedly and we can do it again.
Especially since AI -- and thus RAM -- is now considered a national security concern.

A Valve employee says buying RAM has become much harder due to the ongoing memory shortage and rising demand from AI companies.
According to the employee, memory suppliers come to Valve once a month with a price and a set amount of RAM they can buy.
Valve either accepts the deal or passes on it. If the company says no, the suppliers usually don’t come back with another offer.
“Look, there’s no contracts. There’s nothing. Those guys… they give us a price every month or something and they say, ‘you can buy that many,’ and it’s yes or no. And if we say no, then they never talk to us again.”
The company says the current market has made hardware components much more expensive than usual.

Yeah but you can't play PC games on it, which is the whole fucking point of the Steam Machine.
Stop comparing a console that has a limited library to a PC/SteamOS device that has a massive library of games.

Many don't get what Valve is doing. This isn't intended to beat PS5 Pro, sell more than Switch 2 or outperform your 6090 PC. This is console-like QOL in a six inch cube with the largest (official) game library on the market. (and the next step for SteamOS and Proton's evolution)

IT'S FINALLY THAT TIME. The entire YUNG's suite of mods is now available for MC 26.1.2!!
Very sorry for the delay guys, I've been locked in on some other projects this past year (Bedrock add-ons + new personal projects on the side) so it's been hard to even maintain the current versions of my mods, let alone port them.
Because of that, I instead opted to hire one of the best devs I know (willbl) to port my mods, so shoutout to them for the awesome work :)
Note that there are a couple of minor issues with the new releases - most notably Better Caves still has that bug where pockets of lava can spawn in the water regions - but I wanted to go ahead and get everything out there. We'll be working on ironing out any remaining bugs as quickly as possible.

There are many reasons to hate the Steam Machine but the 30% cut isn't one of em.
And for what it's worth it's funded Valve's decade+ long crusade to free PC games from Windows.
Quite frankly without Valve funding Linux gaming would likely still be in the stone ages.

Linus is completely out of touch.
PS5 will be a graveyard soon, with no access to the vast majority of games out there, while the Steam Machine will be able to run the latest indie games for a decade.
buy game on PS5, rebuy on PS6... or play your entire existing Steam library.

@BonafideXP Yeah I have 20 years of steam purchases I wouldn't mind having access to on my living room TV. With that said... I also don't want a device that'll be outdated in 1-2 year and unable to play upcoming games.

This recommendation isn’t the whole issue.
4M People didn’t buy the Steam Deck just because it was affordable. They also had access to their Steam library on the go. They could’ve bought a ROG Ally or a Legion Go, both of which are more powerful.
While I understand price is definitely important, you can’t assume that is all players are looking for.
- Where is your library of games at?
- Do you care about specs?
- Do you care to pay for online play or no?
- Do deep discounts on games entice you, over online Plus programs and subscription services?
When you do the math, adding monthly or yearly subscription fees, and less often discounts on games overtime; you’re still paying more for a console than you would a Steam Machine.
Ask yourself how much you’ve paid for Game Pass or PlayStation Plus for just this generation alone, and add that to the cost of the hardware….
Now compare that to the straight up cost of the Steam Machine…
