@TheMG3D It will looks differently in every scene unless you use already modeled characters as reference ideally with lot of materials about so AI is already trained at. Also ... this scene does not looks good.

They say it’s over for Hollywood but movies like Project Hail Mary made 140 million worldwide on opening weekend and Hoppers has made over 242 million worldwide since its release. Where are these AI movies they keep taking about?

@gamebols @Peakanime0 Best on Ranma is that he could easily fix ALL of this gender problems just by staying as a girl everytime when goes, out since cold water (that was changing him at girl) is basically everywhere. He was trying for boy form just because was stubborn.

@Peakanime0 I remember an episode of Ranma 1/2 where Ranma in boy form, was acting a girl because of a hit on his head. So Akane went with him to shop around. When the girly side if Boy Ranma came out, people started calling them "Transvestite Couple" much to Akane's panic

"so that's a very natural for some people to have dark skin outside of an "appropriate climate"" - no in this way, these dark skin mutations are extremely rare and mostly end in darker white skin and doesn't make you looks like subsaharan. "you could have crafted a world that isn't primarily white if you wanted to" - where I said primarly white world? I was writing about locations logic. Nothing stoping you from just using more locations or create any magic travel system that only some group or only some places can use. I know that it is maybe not really what was meant but this is exactly what I hate about peoples logic in this. That I make a rules of the world that for example force some location to be purely white, or asiat or black or whatever. That doesn't mean that it is "primarly white world", it just mean it is primarly white location. Your story doesn't have to be in one location. Yeah it is different if for example when I tried to make a world and way how one planetary system was made practically forced that everyone was white/middle east because there was portal from specific place from Earth from where people went to logicaly that is how these people will looks like. But then I had different storyline that have something to do with Earth and was at training basically jumping between Europe, Africa, Asia, South America. So if I would be director of the serie and would needed more black people, nothing really stoping me from move more scenes into Africa. And then question is if you need purely fantasy world, what is stoping you from do your own Africa? Like if your problem is that black people need representation, and your are sick or "white people world" then make "black people world" or black locations in that white world in way that it makes sense. And honestly, I would be really supriced if it doesn't exist in the form of the book, there have to be black fantasy author thinking this way.

@DetvanS but with that reasoning i dont see a black dwarf as an afront to nature in movies and such, but i'm not big into any of the big fantasy series. Also, genetic mutations also happen. so that's a very natural for some people to have dark skin outside of an "appropriate climate".

It is literaly colorism but in this case not racist "I wanna this" but logic. Because reason why in some universes is easier and harder to make stories in the world and easier to make a reader/wiever encaged into makes a story somewhere is to make world complex in way that makes sense. Like way how Lord of the Rings and other best worlds with complex systems was created was because author asked himself "why?" Like you wanna black people here. Ok .... why should they be black? Which could looks like stupid question untill you stop thinking about it as fairy tale but as about alien world. Like why people in this area are black, why this are white, I need black person here ok so I probably should make a reason how black person got into cold climate that makes sense. Maybe make a travel system or that individual is merchant and the like. Or that people was draged in the past from their homeland or migrated so at this areas will be higher concetration of them than in other areas, etc. And the reason these details matter is because your brain knows it, you know that African don't naturaly live in Europe and European don't naturaly live in Africa. If he live there, then there is deeper reason behind it. Milenias it worked like that and only reason why today is mixing are transportation technologies. The more you start to delve into the logical natural order of the world, the more explanation is needed to make logical sense or it becomes a caricature in some way. That of course apply also to other things like architecture, diversity of locations, technology, things should be happening in the backround, and so on. Like people are not going to make same amouth of fancotent for Dragon Prince as for Avatar, that worlds maybe share some writers and ideas. But compare to the Avatar, the world is not so well crafted from every angle and it shows. Of course, if we create a big enough clusterfuck like Star Wars, the color of people will stop bothering you and you'll want to see interesting aliens. But the world still has things like the logic of space battles, hyperspace, hints of the past, civilizations with cultures on planets, Jedi and Sith abilities, politics, and so on. If you want the viewer to be invested in the logic of the world, you have to avoid creating a caricature.

@DetvanS for these fantasy races, is the skin tone or race an important aspect beyond colorism? because if the main reason is just light good dark evil I care a bit less about that being upheld. i'd feel the same if avatar was colorist

@Lockst3p Yeah I think Ariel was bad example but still my main rant was this about how I think about it all. x.com/DetvanS/status…
Detvan SK@DetvanS

Okay. But don't complain that it's going to be long. Well, as a person who likes fantasy (obviously, I'm writing under Avatar post), I don't mind that Americans want minorities in movies, like why not. I mind the obvious laziness and the effort to just annoy people to talk about it. For example, you have fantasy, like Lord of the Rings (Ring of Power series), a book where you have the rules of the world, what race and what people look like. And Amazon says fuck it and they cast a black dwarf who doesn't look like the dwarf from the books at all ...., then a black Hobbit and the like. And it's an original story that was never written in the books, only the sequence of events was in the books (not that the series followed it very closely, on the contrary, people strongly criticize that the series doesn't follow the Silmarilion book) and there is a nation in Middle-earth that is literally only black. Like why, cast actors who don't look like the description of the nation in the original, and ignore that there is a whole nation of people they could play as. And this keeps happening. Hollywood has completely lost any artistic appeal of how fantasy worlds work, and instead we're going to play some politically correct lands. And then they called Tolkien a racist and that they had to change the world to fit the times .... while he literally wrote the world in way that it works without rewriting anything. Like should I now believe that anyone in Hollywood is now sane enough to know how fantasy works? Like then wonder why most of new fantasies are garbage when writers don't even bother to made basics of the worlds works.

@DetvanS Of course you dont NEED the main character to be your race to relate, but thats so much easier to say when most movies you may have seen growing up had people matching your skin tone. it's hard for me to call it a double standard when the playing field hasn't been even.

@LeottaLisandro @Joshua60991948 @JEM__stones Yeah but I doubt it was for trying to make him more serious. Most serious serie still seems to me be Diamond & Pearl and that tends to be best reviewed It was more like because XY was just inconsistent. In some scenes characters acted more serious and in other like anoying kids

@Joshua60991948 @JEM__stones The intention actually was that according to the staff of the anime However, it backfired horribly because the rating loss on Japan was too big to be ignored, so they did a 180° tone turn in SM and it worked incredibly well, so they kept the tone in Journeys

@Joshua60991948 @JEM__stones I don't really understand how he felt older in XY, he was more anoying than before. I think he felt most like growing in Diamond and Pearl. Then it kinda stucked in in Black and White. He was still the same in XY.

We would like to address questions regarding the use of AI in Crimson Desert. During development, some 2D visual props were created as part of early-stage iteration using experimental AI generative tools. These assets helped us rapidly explore tone and atmosphere in the earlier phases of production. However, our intention has always been for any such assets to be replaced, following final work and review by our art and development teams, with work that aligned with our quality standards and creative direction. Following reports from our community, we have identified that some of these assets were unintentionally included in the final release. This is not in line with our internal standards, and we take full responsibility for it. We also acknowledge that we should have clearly disclosed our use of AI. While these tools were primarily used during early production, with the expectation that these assets would be replaced prior to release, we recognize that this does not excuse the lack of transparency. We sincerely apologize for these oversights. We are currently conducting a comprehensive audit of all in-game assets and are taking steps to replace any affected content. Updated assets will be rolled out in upcoming patches. In parallel, we are reviewing and strengthening our internal processes to ensure greater transparency and consistency in how we communicate with players moving forward.

They definitely are adding the sulfur slime cube thing purely because they saw how people were 'Abusing' the Armadillo for minigames as a ball slapping it around. this is 100% just entirely an impulse replacement to get people to stop by adding a fictional mob that can serve the same purpose

Ok then phylosophical question. Why is it "of course"? Why one matter and other don't matter? Like China isn't some 3rd world country that needs to be represented to get some visibility. It is basically country as same level as USA or EU. And please don't write the answer that Asians have culture, Europeans also have culture. Then we see black Vikings. Like yeah sure, it is great that Mulan was actually played by Asian .... but Ariel is from European book. None of those characters ever existed. Both are fictional made at place in which story happening. The only criterion that changes is that the new Ariel was created in modern Hollywood where the creators want to differentiate themselves from the old films made in Hollywood. Which were largely white cast. I hope you understand where my problem is. A double standard designed to be different just for the sake of being different. Quality at that point goes by the wayside.

@DetvanS also. i know you dont mean this, but that comes across as "i don't care who played who when it was mostly white with diversity relegated to specific characters or side roles" of course mulan will be asian, but ariel being black means her acting wasnt a factor.

@Lockst3p Well it's in same category because it is symptom of same problem Casting stoped to be quality move and instead it's just budget & advertisement move. In 90s and 2000s people was talking about same problem but about young and old actors. It is still same just in different light

Yeah I know that portal fantasy was made at west originaly. Practically original one was Narnia. That comment was more about I would expect that Japanese which are now best in 2D animation in volume of animators, lot of originals IPs, should be that part of industry making original stories better when they using this trope a most. Also I didn't mention one old anime which tried that: InuYasha which isn't really that type of portal fantasy when main character spend weeks at other world but prety much tested the idea of 2 worlds and is prety popular between fans of old anime. So that makes it even weirder that no one made it again just with different story.

@DetvanS @literaturedevil Here's one that does that. It's not Japanese, though. Western writers are more apt to try to come up with different angles. I don't know why Japanese creators are so locked in on recreating the same exact formulas over and over again.
