Bush, Romney, and McCain are and were not civil and decent to Obama because he returned the civility and decency. He and Biden were atrocious and grotesque to all three.
Bush, Romney, and McCain are and were that way because they are and were better men who viewed it as a civil and moral duty, whether that’s right or misguided, to be better.
It was never a two-way street. Which is precisely how Trump capitalized, again for right or wrong, on “stop caring about decency and civility”.
