@NickADobos @webprofusion @LukasHozda "Not everyone has access to a computer that can write modern software" This is an issue yes, the others aren't. I didn't get a degree or have people to review my code. I just grinded for tens of thousands of hours, reading and writing as much code as possible.

Yes most people are gatekeep from the Olympics… wtf u talking about Why do you think USA & China win most medals? Access to training, nutrition & prerequisite competitions Not everyone has access to a computer that can write modern software, the opportunity to get a CS degree, or get an internship or junior position at a tech company where senior engineers review their code

Ah yes, we developers, who built the software for you, and are famously known with being very open with our knowledge and sharing materials, books, advice and even OSS software, gatekept software.
Rohan Paul@rohanpaul_ai

Software used to be gated by roughly 20 million professional developers up until last year. Good ideas still needed engineers, co-founders, time, and months of app work. Now, anyone can build. ~ Wabi CEO Eugenia Kuyda

@NickADobos @webprofusion @LukasHozda Requiring a large time investment does not equate to gate keeping. Are you gatekept from competing in the Olympics? And there have been programming tools designed to be as easy to use for decades, you simply lacked the drive that the people who actually learned it had.

@webprofusion @LukasHozda So you had to help someone overcome the complexity and skill hurdle? That kinda proves my point. Even if the intention is to be open, the tools were not built to be accessible to the masses.

@CreatorStackAI_ @LukasHozda "Access to creation was not" What the fuck does that even mean? Just an excuse for people who didn't want to put the time in.

Feels like people mix up two different things here Devs have always shared a lot but building software still had a high barrier Both can be true at the same time Access to knowledge was open access to creation was not That is the part changing now Curious which side people actually experienced more

@0x44_ @hasen_95dx Supersampling is nothing new, it's how they tackled aliasing in those old raytracers in the 80s..

@hasen_95dx It's mostly because of how wasteful modern techniques have gotten (e.g. super sampling), and entire generations of devs who only understand graphics from the top level (e.g. Unreal engine) down, not realizing you can do path tracing on PCs from the 80s.

@nicbarkeragain closest I've encountered personally was this one GPU I had at work that would produce a distinctive whine depending on whether ALU or memory bound shaders were running. I am dead serious.

I've read some wild things about early computing, but I just learned that the EDSAC computer (1949) apparently had: "A loudspeaker connected to the accumulator's sign bit; experienced users knew healthy and unhealthy sounds of programs, particularly programs "hung" in a loop."

@DarioFleshlight @supahvee1234 You're talking about something he realized over 20 years ago. He's been doing graphics professionally for around that amount of time.

Bro, as someone who was gaming in the 90's, I had no idea that Crash Bandicoot was nearly impossible to run on the PS1. The developers found a way to get around the PS1 limitations, and the way they did it was sick! This is what optimization looks like, and somehow, most modern game developers can't seem to pull it off. youtube.com/shorts/LvQ2hYk…

This guy juices fresh pomegranates for the first time and realizes he just squeezed out roughly $15 worth of vibrant, seed-free juice… for basically the same price as a $17 bottle at the store. Takes his first sip, goes “Oh my goodness”… Then yeets his glasses across the room in pure disbelief 😭 I'm thinking I need to buy one of these citrus juicers, how about you?
End3of6Days9 (Helen) 🇺🇸@end3of6days9

This girl sees Tropicana on sale for $4.99 and thinks “I can beat that.” She grabs two bags of oranges for $4.98, pulls out the manual juicer, and starts sweet-talking the fruit like “please don’t let me down” 😂 Ends up with almost the exact same amount of juice… but way better taste. I’m sure fresh-squeezed OJ tastes better, but would you really go through all that trouble just to save a penny? 😭

@end3of6days9 @grok how many times would you have to juice the fruit to make it so you're not net negative after accounting for the fruit cost and juicer cost instead of just buying bottles of juice?

ported the 6dof raycast renderer back to my C engine still needs a lot of work (doesn't handle slopes/doors/etc), but it's getting close! #gamedev #raycasting
