From next Wednesday, dual nationals who are UK citizens must use a British passport (or ridiculously expensive "certificate of entitlement" to enter the UK. But airlines can allow such folk to travel with an expired UK passport dating as far back as 1989.

@SimonCalder Worth also noting that this doesn't apply to UK-Irish dual citizens .. Irish passport holders can freely enter the UK on their Irish passport regardless of if they also hold a UK passport
Dual citizens.
From Wednesday 25 February, people who are British but also citizens of another country were told they can travel to the UK only with a valid British passport or “Certificate of Entitlement”.
But now it seems an expired UK passport may work.

@Michaelkelly707@rte A little confusing in this article to know what the exact changes are that they seem to be so against ? .. I guess it's the lack of an evening departure to Donegal and the night stop for the aircraft , but that seems a bit unclear with all the mention of morning departures ?
@superalbs@GatwickExpress@TfL What would it cost with Oyster/contactless I wonder .. Bit bit I guess as it's about that price to Zone 1 from LHR with the Elizabeth line ... Guess your ticket is with a Railcard ?
Transferring from Gatwick to Heathrow for just £13 with @GatwickExpress and @TfL, it's a surprisingly good price for a connection between two airports, I was expecting to pay much more! 😁
@thomasforthirishtimes.com/ireland/2026/0… .. a bit more info on the likely cost of it if you're interested .. I assume that includes all the new terminals/barriers etc. as well as the backend systems .. doesn't sound too crazy if it comes in as budgeted.
@EvilDoctorK The Leap card is great and this feels like just about the right time to try and transition to credit/debit cards. Will be tricky --- including national rail is a big gamble --- but there's a good chance of success I'd say.
@s8mb It's excellent for kids of all ages, massive and with great detail and model trains etc running all around under your feet .. Fab display of English eccentricity at it's finest ( was started by a vicar many years ago I believe ! )
My son absolutely loves trains. Can’t get enough of them - his ideal afternoon is watching videos of them on TV while playing with brio trains and a Duplo train station.
What are the best things to do in London with him? We’ve been to the transport museum and I’ve taken him to watch them at Denmark Hill station (where the drivers often toot their horns at him, which he loves). What else might he enjoy?
Traffic is very heavy on the M1 southbound this morning due to restrictions on traffic flows into the Port Tunnel. Passengers should allow extra time and consider alternate routes for getting to Dublin Airport.
@KarlBrophy@DublinAirport Ah but isn't that South Dublin centric thinking 😜 ... Folks from Swords and points north might need to be getting to T1 whatever about T2 !
@thomasforth Rail probably much simpler than the UK given the much simpler ( and usually cheaper !) fare structure
Though cross border services might be interesting? ( same for long distance buses )
@thomasforth Certainly hope so, when I go home it's a pain as a visitor when you can't use contactless
They may need to move to a flat fare on city buses ( in Dublin anyway ) to make it work? Current variable fares by journey length on the same route probably tricky and add time at bus stops
@thomasforth That would be the exception I think .. the M7 out of Dublin can be bad at rush hour so 3h30 maybe then .. the other 23 hours of the day though I'd say 3hrs is pretty solid , indeed in the middle of the night you'd probably do it in 2 1/2 hours
@thomasforth 3 hours more like it , even a little less ... It's motorways almost the entire way ( Thanks EU structural funds) and it's only about 250km
I wonder about some of the results. For example, the train from Dublin to Cork is 2h30 and I reckon 3h30 is a better guess for driving in real life. So I think I need to make decent adjustments for congestion. I'll get it to print out a table of its results to calibrate that.
Not sure what data drives the claim but it doesn't feel right and the limited data I can find such as timeanddate.com/weather/south-… suggests a min of 18 overnight on 28-29 December
Yesterday was a certainly a nice day, but didn't feel exceptional .. (Today is positively cool so far)
@extremetemps I think you need to take a long hard look at some of your postings before throwing around such accusations
The constantly hyperbolic tone doesn't help
Thanks for clarifying the information that your original post lacked
@EvilDoctorK . You pointed to MALAN AP data when i talked by table bay portnet station Cant even know hos own city stations and mucroclimates. Oh my what ignorance
@KarlBrophy This one is definitely one I want to try this year - instagram.com/tannin_on_bree… ( more wine bar than restaurant, but looks very interesting ... apparently they used to run a pub in the Cotswolds !)
@KarlBrophy Any good new restaurant tips appreciated.. I'll watch your feed ( I'm down there in a few weeks .. still got a few spots in the eating calendar )
