@Faino @upstatefederlst No. It means a militia primarily under control by a state government (hence the security of a “free state”). It’s a concession to anti federalists. National guard isn’t perfectly that but it’s the closest we have.

The frustrating thing about being a Republican in the US is Democrats have no issue make from thin air the right to murder a baby and making it the law of the land for 50+ years, but Republicans suggesting the 14th Amendment doesn't apply to temporary visitors is beyond the pale.

At the time of the Founding, “to regulate” primarily meant to make regular, to organize, to standardize, to discipline, or to prescribe rules for orderly functioning—similar to making something operate efficiently or according to a consistent standard. It did not inherently imply broad “regulation” in the contemporary administrative-state sense (e.g., detailed prohibitions or licensing regimes). The type of tech available at the time is irrelevant. It SHOULD be a moving scale commiserate with what tech the government has. The government should have NO ABILITY to limit or prohibit arms. Obviously, some of the tech is cost prohibitive for the individual, but the idea was that like-minded individuals could band together to protect themselves and even rise up against a tyrannical government. It was NOT to go hunting or even for self defense. That was another right that is self-evident. To the Founders, the idea that an individual wouldn’t be allowed to arm themselves would have been absurd. It was only enumerated in the Bill of Rights to protect themselves from an eventual tyrannical government… one that we definitely got.

@Faino @upstatefederlst “Well regulated militia” is the full phrase. The national guard is the closest thing we have to that. Sure, they had some other tech. They didn’t have semi automatic handguns.

So ignorant. First of all, there were multishot guns and cannons at the writing of the 2nd amendment, and secondly, “only for the national guard”. Are you joking? If the 2nd amendment was “necessary to the security of a free state”, meaning, to protect us from our government, we, the people, need to be armed. I’d love to hear what you think “well regulated” means.

If you don’t understand the 14th amendment, the arguments at the time about who it was for and Congress’s unwillingness to acknowledge that slavery happened, then sure. The 14th amendment was explicitly to make slaves who were born here, citizens. What it was not for, was to make the children of illegal immigrants citizens. Period.

@upstatefederlst If there was an amendment that said "Abortion is illegal" you might have a point. The language of the 14th and 2nd amendments are equally plain, and will be equally protected by any legitimate court, regardless of partisan complaints.

For all of you morons who think their record after 7 games is conclusive, I want them to be good, but I’m afraid we’ll look back fondly but painfully at the time they were 5-2 and in 1st place in the west. Jim Crane is cheap. He spent no money to make this team better. Every win is a gift.

The Chicago Bulls may quite possibly get the Bud Light treatment for kicking Jaden Ivey off the team after he spoke against NBA Pride Night. And it would be richly deserved.

Great insight. The best female keeper in US history was a striker until college. Your understanding and how you play with the ball at your feet, I’d argue, is 2/3 of the position. Ignoring those because Matt Turner occasionally makes an incredible save is just ridiculous and I truly don’t understand what Pochettino and his staff are seeing in training or on tape.

Yes. I split time which was common in the 90’s until I was about 13. Striker. GK. Then went full GK @ 13. Generally speaking, your GK’s back then were your best “ball sport” athletes on your competitive teams. I played all sports but baseball was the first sport I gave up. Basketball was my other favorite and then I dropped that after my JV season because I was quite frankly a D3 level talent at best who hadn’t hit a growth spurt vs. one of the better GK’s in my age group in state of CA @ the time. So it was pretty clear that I needed to focus on just soccer if I was going to amount to anything in my life. And that’s what I did. Played @ UC Davis and then hung up the boots after college because I didn’t love playing GK enough to play for 15k a year. The margins are so small that you’d start as a backup or 3rd string somewhere and then work your way up. The goalie 3 years ahead of me in college had a long career in A League/USL and he’s struggled with work when soccer career ended. There was just no money in soccer in US and really in world for a GK. If I were playing now, totally different outcome.

D1 Goalkeeper here. Certainly not a national team member but I certainly know more than most. He didn’t see until it was basically at the penalty spot. Look at when he starts his dive relative to where ball is at. If he sees it at top of 18 then yea. But no way anyone saves that with line of sight cut off until ball hits 18 and then travels to PK spot. I saw it live and I don’t think for a second he “could have got that”. IMO of course.
