I'm sleeping at my parent's house tonight with my 9-year-old daughter. My 70-year-old mother comes into the guest room and says the camera out back just detected a person in the backyard. My daughter starts crying and hiding under the desk in the guest room, scared out of her mind. I immediately retrieve by 40 cal and go out in the backyard to ensure no one is there. After walking the whole property with my 40 cal, I verify that no one is outside the outside at the time. I come back in and my daughter is hiding under the desk in the guest room and crying still. This is the first time I have been in this scenario. I thank God for the United States of America and the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution and being able to adequately defend 3 generations of my family.

@xrpadastra Yes. Low quality camera. Just showed a human sized motion box by the shed and car. Everything inside the box was grainy

@FariaDM86 Did we think to review the camera recording to see what we were dealing with?

@FariaDM86 I've never been in that exact situation though so it's easy to be an armchair quarterback. I did have a drunk person banging on my door in the middle of the night before. I called the police and lucky for them, they never actually got past the door. 🔫 🔫 🤣 God Bless the 2A!

@FariaDM86 I would've grabbed my AR, stayed in the house, and scoped things out from a window. Don't want to open yourself up to a possible ambush from a group outside. Call the police if necessary and defend your "castle." Staying inside is to your advantage.

The 'Dignidad Act' is an insult to the American people and the mandate they delivered to enforce our immigration laws and deport those who violate them. @Jaybles1015 I was in the US Navy. Not trained for this scenario. I thought having only one door unlocked and me defending it was reasonable while I searched the 1/2 acre property. I was reacting. How would you have reacted if you never have been subjected to that scenario?

So, you're actually referring to the 2nd amendment, not due process under and juries under the 5th amendment, right? U.S. Supreme Court rulings like District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010) have rejected that narrow reading and affirmed the individual right, not just militias. I simply reacted, and after I was able to get my daughter calmed down and in bed, I made a post.

Thanks for pointing out that I was unwise. I was simply reacting to the situation. My daughter was terrified because she was reacting to the fear of my mother. I don't have direct access to the cameras at my parent's house. All I knew was that a human-sized motion box appeared in the backyard by the shed and my parent's car.

@FariaDM86 Say 40 cal more. Also first time you've been in this scenario, why was your daughter instantly terrified? Also my cameras identify my one dog as a person frequently, when I get any notification I check the live feed, using ptz. Going directly into the unknown is unwise

@OzStomper I can't stand that environment. As I mentioned in other comments, this is the first time something like this has happened to me. I reacted, that's all. And I'm thankful for my right to own a firearm.

It was actually my mother being afraid that got my daughter "hysterical". Nothing in my post states I was raging about anything. I grabbed my 40 cal for defense and went to check it out for my mother. I am thankful and telling my story. Why are you so upset? I really want to understand.

You whipped your children into hysteria and crying, so that you could pull out your gun and go raging around the backyard over something that didn't exist. And then you bragged about it on Twitter so you could push 2nd Amendment propaganda. Instead of being "proud" you should be ashamed of using your children that way
