@rhysajlucero @MikeNellis That’s just an overly complicated method to avoid an independent group doing the drawing. It worked in Virginia and CA. There is no evidence that the same approach won’t work nationally.

We’ll just fight about who’s on the ‘independent’ commission. The solution is easier than that. The majority should draw twice as many districts as there are in the State, where the districts are contiguous and equal in population (no donuts). Then the minority gets to pair up districts, as long as the pairs touch. The last pair doesn’t have to touch. This method precludes the map creator (the majority party) from deciding which ‘districts’ to combine or crack. That decision would belong to the minority causing the majority to create a fairer map.

Last time gerrymandering was brought to a vote, every single Democrat voted to ban it, and every single Republican voted to keep it. Republicans blocked it in the Senate using the filibuster. Stop making shit up.
Erick Erickson@EWErickson

Democrats don't really want a national ban on gerrymandering in large part because both Democrat and Republican data experts agree it would hurt the Democrats. It's a talking point. In California, their nonpartisan gerrymandering board was packed with Democrats, some of whom just claimed to be Republicans to get on the board.

@bricef99 @lydiabackagain @WhickTv I’m not sure what source you’re asking for. The requiring additional documents that have a fee attached if you have to order them is a poll tax and is illegal. I don’t see a reason why real ID won’t work or even automatic voter registration.

@bricef99 @lydiabackagain @WhickTv First those charges are bunk and will be tossed like the rest. You would know that if you bothered to live in reality. On married women, requiring extra documents in the problem. Do you know how many people married for over 10 years have their marriage certificate?

WhickTV - Bane of Christian Nationalists
Look, I hear you. I don't like gerrymandering either. Republicans control the senate, the house, have the presidency, and are 6-3 on SCOTUS. They could ban gerrymandering. They could've stopped this and all other gerrymanders If they wanted to. Ask yourself: "Why don't they?"

@rhysajlucero @Tendrin @MikeNellis What bills have the introduced to deal with immigration? That’s right they haven’t because they don’t actually care. They want to start wars and intentionally make things more expensive while they demagogue about immigration.

@Tendrin @GGZ_71 @MikeNellis Republicans have other priorities. Like stopping illegal immigration and dealing with the international power structure. Democrats in Congress would rather demagogue.

@bricef99 @lydiabackagain @WhickTv That link has nothing to do with this topic at all. You’ve provided no sources for your claims so your sources so you can’t hold me to a different standard. On this topic how would a married woman register to vote?

And yet you cite zero sources for any of these claims because they’re made up. Cmon mister educated man, you should know better than to make claims without citing your sources! And maybe you should take up the “racism” with the democrats funding the KKK then cbsnews.com/amp/news/south…

@rhysajlucero @MikeNellis Really? It’s HR 5449 and senate version is S 2885. Called redistributing reform act. It only deals with districting and the independent commissions that would govern them. Go look it up.

@bricef99 @lydiabackagain @WhickTv At least you admit you’re uneducated. That’s the first step. Lawyers looked at the bill and married women would lose the right to vote. Minorities have issues with documents because of racism. Did you know that was still a thing we non whites deal with?

Ah yes the classic ad hominem attacks on my intelligence. Well, let me help you out as well. First of all, this does not reduce women’s right to vote. Even authors of the bill have confirmed that married woman who have changed their last names are not going to somehow lose their right to vote. Second, are you implying somehow that people of color are not capable of obtaining valid forms of identification of citizenship? Sounds a bit racist if you ask me. But what do I know, I’m just an uneducated pawn I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

@GGZ_71 @MikeNellis You are missing the point. If we all agree on gerrymandering, pass a single issue bill. In 800 pages, there might be other provisions that make it objectionable. Like I said, classic Democrat demagoguery!

@GGZ_71 @MikeNellis I’m not claiming they are necessarily bad things, but wrapping a priority that everyone can agree on inside a package of competing priorities is a way of playing political games. We don’t know why someone objected to OR supported the bill. It’s classic Democrat demagoguery.

@bricef99 @lydiabackagain @WhickTv Let me help you since you don’t seem very educated. Republicans benefit from reducing the ability for women and people of color from voting. Republicans want this in the save act. Also illegal votes aren’t a thing that happens enough to care about.

@GGZ_71 @lydiabackagain @WhickTv That’s a strange admission that it benefits republicans if people who are illegally voting suddenly are not longer able to do it anymore 🤔

@MikeNellis The law was 800 pages and had independent commission and automatic voter registration requirements along with many other Democrat priorities that had nothing to do with congressional maps. It was gamesmanship just like all Democrat sponsored bills.

@lydiabackagain @GGZ_71 @WhickTv That’s not my argument. I’m simply explaining how the system currently is. If you want to concede that you were wrong about your convictions and move on to talking about why we do or do not need the save act then we can do that.
